Christmas is coming. Ole's posts are predictable. We get one for the holiday, a prank for April's fools, and a real update sometime after.

Theme Park Review has just announced a new simulator game.

Link Removed

It's coming out summer 2013. While design doesn't look overly complex, it could be a nice simple way for coaster fans to design some attractions without the perfections that have come to be expected from NL tracks.

Could be the push to finally get NL 2 out the gates?

Don't want to worry anyone but Ole's posts aren't *always* predictable in this way. In 2010 there was a post in November, no Christmas update, and then the next update was not until April 2011.

Like everyone, I'm keeping my fingers crossed so much for an update & release. NL2 has been in development for what, 5+ years now?

EDIT: NL2 was first said to be in development back on 25th Dec 2005 --> 7 years ago!

Ole says that there is "not much left to do" - a few more old coaster styles to add back in to NL2 and writing the game's manual for example. However, cannot give a release date as yet due to the complexities of releasing a large new piece of software onto the market.

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone! [dorkhat]

well it seems Ole just won't be listening to his customers or trying to gain more of them. Many wanted a better editor (build with the track and supports rendered) as for many just gave up on the wire frame building method...it was just to difficult to use out of the box.

I want the editor to stay exactly the same, just bigger so I can build Boulder Dash. I think I have it down pretty well for the stuff I do, and there are tools for the more complex stuff. The only thing that can't be made properly with the editor we have now are Arrow coasters (and wood to a degree, but it's easy to "fake" with those), because they don't bank around the centerline, they bank along the inner or outer rail.

Looks like a really excellent game. Can't wait for its release. Info and progress was a nice Christmas present.

Now to graduate and get a big boy job so I can afford a computer.....

Since this will allow multiple tracks in one "park" and track building is a lot more free form than the primitive track building interface of RCT3, and in addition being able to tunnel underground w/o scenery or crashing through the ground, I'm not sure how much I will enjoy RCT3 when this comes out. I guess RCT3 is still good for video game cruelty potential and placing flat rides.
I do hope there's the option to bank without heart-lining, otherwise Arrow coasters and wooden coasters will be harder to make while feeling authentic.
I am excited about the "not much left to do" part.

That would be something to see but again I hope we would be able to have a choice to switch between rusty rails and clean shinny rails when making our new tracks. I think thats all true hopefully.

Yeah It looks like its almost done. The biggest thing for me is the fact that we'll finally have a bigger work area. It still shocks me that ole never released an update for NL1 after all these years to increase the size of the work area. There are so many rides that don't fit.

Heartline isn't what I'm talking about. Our current editor doesn't bank around the heartline unless you shape the track as such. It does bank around the center however, which isn't how Arrow banked. I researched the hell out of this a couple years ago (mostly just because I wanted to prove someone wrong lol) and every instance I could find was banked around one of the running rails, not the center rail. I assume when they were laying track out they would start with that one rail level, bend it to their turn radius, and then build the rest of the track around that to compensate for banking, height changes, etc. Wood is a little different, we can't get that right in NL but we can get it to feel very similar. I assume most people wouldn't know what to look for to show that it's wrong and we can make the feel close enough so it's almost a non issue.

In other words.....The game is too complex for you and somehow that must mean it's too complex for everyone, so you'll be "voting with your wallet" to prove a point. I don't know of those "many" who gave up (I do know of many who lost interest, but that's another story) but I do know of "many" who practiced and put a lot of effort into the program and actually became pretty good at it. Building with track and supports rendered would COMPLETELY fu.ck up my workflow and I would have to change how I build substantially. I'm quite happy with how the editor is now and I'm actually a little disappointed it's in the 3D environment in NL2 rather than the simple CAD editor we have now. The only thing missing from your post to make it fit for a republican blog is random capitalized words.

since my point flew over your head. This forum and many others are full of good folks who have repeatedly said its to difficult to use out of the box. That doesn't mean that one can't master it. Me and many like me have asked and stated that NL2 should be more friendly to use.You must have been at the ice cream store with you mom at this time. See these game developers like coaster crazy and TPS have asked and even listen to there future customers. The NL2 has been way to Conservative on any info about NL2, and have ignored its customers and testers. At the end you will end up with the same game "type" with a few new features, trains and graphics. So go buy another call of duty. And yes I vote with my wallet and my views. Word is this thing is suppose to be released in the spring of 2013, thats just a few months away.

Of course it's the same game type...The entire goal behind No Limits 2 was to be a more advanced coaster simulator than No Limits, so the "same type of game with more features" is a very accurate statement. Unless I'm wrong, NL2's editor is going to be much more user-friendly, one reason being the track and supports can be rendered right within the editor.
