^ Which means NoLimits 3 will release first. Not surprising given Valve's track record with the number 3 in their game titles.

On a more serious note, I do hope NL 2.x becomes more and more industry-standard as time comes along. It means we may be able to see it become a full park simulation if the industry needs it in their visualizations. (Which seems to be the case by all means; we see the rest of amusement parks in new coaster CGI demos all the time.) Of course, with this, parks can also use NL to advertise by creating interactive demos of the entire park (or at least its highlights). (Sort of like how Vekoma advertised their motorbike coaster to the industry via the pre NL1.5 demo earlier.)

I can't say, but the same source also told me that development of RCT4 and Scream Machines 2 has been ongoing in Area 51. They are currently in closed beta but I'm not allowed to say much. I know RCT4 will feature F*D*b*sed coasters and Scream Machines 2 with p*r* guests and fl*t rides. In addition, there will be- [Post truncated, user "coasteragent99" has been abducted. Actually there's been no shortage of marketing videos using NL1.x. The latest was from GCI demoing a wooden shuttle family coaster https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4pglhKAMaw. Gravity Group and Holiday World previewed The Voyage in NoLimits. We've even had screen shots show up on billboards believe it or not.

We do hope that NL2 becomes even more popular as a marketing tool than it already is. But I think the industry that might be most excited about it is the amusement park T-shirt industry. They are infamous for featuring NoLimits screen shots in lieu of suitable photos or illustrations. Next time you're a park just look at the T-shirts that feature roller coasters on them. Pay especially careful attention to the track style and supports. Chances are at least one of them is a NL1.x screen shot. NL2 has more realistic track, trains and supports, and a greater number of train styles that will probably make the amusement park T-shirt people salivate. [xx(]

I actually have a voodoo shirt(it was bought its first season before the name change). that features a vekoma SLC version of the ride that is definitely NL. I always thought it was funny because it wasn't even the right track style
What are these for?

How the hell else can he explain that differently Jcoasters I mean god damn it.

They'd pick a rail and bank around it usually. Contrary to what you may think, they had a somewhat logical reason to bank the entrance to double corkscrews like 65 degrees or whatever it was despite how stupid it looks knowing what we know today. You can approximate their shaping by just not heartlining, but when you look the spines really do "kick out" a bit most of time and it's because like Freddie said they were banking roughly around the rail area. It's tricky to find examples of it, especially since they varied their shaping a bit through time in their later rides, but they do exist.

I'd take a stab at making another "big three-like" (Shockwave, Viper, GASM) Arrow looper if I had some time but I just don't at the moment.

When most of those were made they were really in uncharted territory as far as trying out design elements and stuff. You've got to remember the computing power in the 80's vs today and other factors.

And no they didn't literally design a track based on bending coat hangers. If anyone actually thinks they should be castrated.

Ah, man, I totally thought all companies did that. Thanks for ruining my day.

We all saw the same Ron Toomer coaster stuff on Discovery years ago. Coat hangers are only for element ideas and/or coats.

And then there was a topic.

Me want NL2 yesterday. Just hope I don't have to upgrade too much hardware for it.

So if Ole made the purchase price $100 USD, how many of you would still purchase NL2?

Great for the thought process though. I did it with all sorts of stuff, even outside with the garden hose bending a certain way you just think ya that would be a kick ass element.

I think it had more to do with the manufacturing than the design process. With CNC benders the math can be input to build everything around an invisible centerline (heartline) and the steel can be shaped to such on the spot. Only two axis can be shaped by a bender and the third does have to be shaped by hand (url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPRiRT563N0"]this[/url] explains it pretty well) but with the CNC machines this can be done based off that centerline.

I think what Arrow did was leave their first rail on just the two axis and build the third around that with the rest of the track. If you notice on Arrows rides one rail is either going up and down or left and right, never both at the same time. The other compensates that.

Anyways, what I meant originally was not to say that NL lacks usage in marketing and visualization, but was that I hope to see it used by a majority of the big names in the coaster and amusement industry, such as Intamin and Cedar Fair. (Although they do seem to have plenty of resources to create 3D modeling renderings.)

The National Geographic documentary posted above contained some interesting bits. Unfortunately, the software title/info used in the video footage was censored, but I suppose someone who has used it could figure out what it is. The rider envelope part could help us build proper tunnel splines in the tunnelmaker for testing.

Edit: I noticed a viewcube. AutoCAD 2009 perhaps?

I guess SM2 and RCT4 both being worked on in area51 in a sense. That was a good one.

Civil Engineer usually makes reference to the guy on the ground during construction rather than the guy designing the stuff in the office (For instance- I'ma graduate Design Engineer however other graduates I know that are working on site are Graduate Civil Engineers)

HOwever, you're right, I'd imagine he has a civil/structural or quite likely a mechanical engineering degree (much more difficult than civil/structural so they can pick up civil/structural stuff quite easily)
