As a friend said on fb. "Only Intamin would strap one ride on another.."

This looks so bad! MM version doesn't look too bad but wow....

Looks awesome to me - kind of like a "might as well" sort of thing. Much cheaper to tack a drop tower on the side of an existing structure, plus you can reach record-breaking heights. On top of that you have the coaster rumbling up and down the tower making it move (or sway like Superman/Lex Luthor) which has got to be terrifyingly cool.

I guess it's not as aesthetically pleasing but idgaf if it allows for a cool ride like this.

I think it'd look a lot better if they went with something like yellow instead of the orange. Orange and blue are complimentary, but the orange and green clash badly. Yellow looks good with both blue and green, and still highlights the ride like I'm sure they want.

/end artist rant

I need a change of clothes after a 275 foot drop tower... 415 feet. I can't be up that high for that long. Flat rides are becoming too tall...

but obviously I would ride it

I think adding these drop rides to already existing structures is a neat idea, just imagine attaching one to a building like the sears tower or the chrysler building or even more extreme the burj kahlifa. but yeah I agree the color is a terrible but other than that I hope to get down there next year to try it
What are these for?

What if this new drop tower on Kingda Ka also made you face down like Falcon's Fury?

How is it terrible or bad in any way? It's a perfect way to add a giant thrill ride to a park while conserving resources. It looks amazing. The freefall is going to last so long. And the direction that the cars are facing gives you almost a complete overview of the entire park. It's going to be an excellent addition.

I have two complaints and a question. Firstly, that orange is ugly as sin, dcs is right it should be yellow. Second, the Drop of Doom name sort of works with Lex Luthor branding but seems pretty stupid with some an African/Safari theme, it just doesn't work. Finally, so they advertised Lex as being 400 feet tall and hitting 85 mph, so how does this hit 95 if it's only 415 feet tall?

They said 90 mph, not 95 mph. 400 ft, 85 mph versus 415 ft, 90 mph. Seems reasonable.

Bottom Feeder, SFMM's Deja Vu was magically 20ft taller than the two other when it opened. It's all in the marketing lies.

Looks like a hungover engineer designed it on a saturday morning but whatever lol I like it.

SFMMs deja overhung a hill and I believe was on higher footings (area prone to flood maybe?), so technically it was taller.

Agreed. Current tower = beautiful. Zumanjaro addition = more of an eye sore. And if orange drop columns don't look great on this, I'm not really sure how other rides (e.g. Goliath @ SFMM) managed to pull of an aesthetic appeal by combining the turquoise with orange.

^ Blue and orange are complementary colors and tend to look good together, especially if the blue is closer to sky blue than royal blue, it's the addition of green that makes everything go to hell, the blue and green look good together and the blue and orange look good together but the orange and green look bad together if Zumanjaro was yellow it would look better.

Before I ramble I'm not trying to prove you wrong, I've just heard this repeatedly and my inner BS meter has always been majorly tripped by this.

I looked up the topographic map for the SFMM area (Newhall, California if anyone cares. Contour interval is 20ft. You can find the map on hiking trail websites and then preview the map for purchase from the USGS and see the scaling and stuff on the USGS site). It's in a really flat area (for a non-glaciated/lacustrine place) with a contour going right under where the ride is. I did some remedial rise over run on the flat spot and it's.....flat lol. I don't remember the slope of the area it's in but it's pretty minimal. Granted I'm aware you can do a fair amount in a 20ft contour interval topography wise, it just doesn't make sense.

The anti-flooding flash flooding channel thing is right next to the ride for a reason (it's in a low flat spot).

I honestly think they did one of two things with that:
1.) Counted the spinning mechanical assembly at the top when others didn't (doesn't look 15-20ish ft tall but scale can be a buttface so IDK)
2.) Outright lied (SFDK's Vertical Velocity did this too and got busted for it remember)

http://rcdb.com/748.htm?p=1627

Pretty sure it was the second. Supports would be different if it was on a hill like people claim even though it's the opposite of on a hill. Doesn't matter now though because that ride is gone.

I think it is ok but I was half expecting an R.M.C. hybrid as those seem to be the new trend. I think that it is a good thing, adding something new to every park every year.

Great Adventure doesnt need an RMC though especially in that part of the park, that would be like having I305 and Leviathan right next to each other
What are these for?

The color scheme makes perfect sense. Kingda Ka has four colors: Dark Blue, Light Blue, Green, and Orange. Each of the trains is one of these colors, the track and supports use the green and both blues, while orange is only used on the restraints. Therefore, why not use the same shade of orange for Zumanjaro's track. The vehicles also use the same green and dark blue for the restraints and seats.
