Cedar Fair recently trademarked the name Centurion for a new amusement park ride. The mark is good for both the name of an amusement ride as well all the usual merchandise and other goods that come along with similar past filings.

So where could Centurion be headed? I could take a guess, based mostly on recent news that has popped up... but nothing is for certain. A Centurion was in charge of a century in the Roman army, so the title has a bit of strength, leadership and authority to it. Makes for a good coaster name, if you ask me.

If you remember Banshee was trademarked by the company in April of 2013, and we now know that was for Kings Island's 2014 coaster. With nothing named Centurion coming in 2014 to any parks we can assume this is a 2015 project, which means they are way ahead of the ball on this one. Must be some sort of rather large project!

In other Cedar Fair news, the company has extended CEO Matt Ouimet's contract by two years, keeping him on board through at least the end of 2016. They also adjusted some details related to his salary, but all I personally care about is the fact that he's sticking around. I think the additions this year, and to an even larger extend next year, really show off his influence - and it's one that many of us really like for the parks.

Here's to at least a couple more years of the revitalized growth at the company, I'm looking forward to it!

I am thinking it could be for the potential Dorney 2015 coaster.
If that place doesn't get a "new" coaster soon with some records, I could see that place heading downhill.

I could see a Dorney coaster being named this, with Hercules and Hydra's Revenge, grated theres no room in that corner for that to make sense. We already have rumors of a 2015 coaster so it could be a good sign. ^ It doesnt need to break records though, dorney isnt the go big or go home kind of park its more family oriented. We just need a solid ride thats not recylcled in the dry park, doesn't have to be mind blowing to be successful in this area
What are these for?

I'm just hoping for another Giga coaster
MF and I305 are too far away and Nitro just isn't doing it for me at SF.

I have strong reason to think this attraction/coaster will be for Valleyfair. The last coaster we got was Renegade in 2007. We've gotten practically nothing since then, only a wave pool and planet snoopy. This year we are getting a disco, re-installing a ride we took out last year (antique auto's), and relocating 2 rides to a certain area of the park for "Route 76", I heard we are getting the disco used to which should cut down on the cost. I doubt Route 76 will go over 1Mil, so we are still yet to get a big budget upgrade. With the relocation of 2 rides for the 2014 season, and the removal/demolishment of our Imax theater I think we have something very big on mind for 2015 (or 2016).

^Keep dreaming, since Carowinds is supposed to be getting a giga for 2015 I bet the name is for that, although I think a ride around 100 feet would better fit the name. In 2012 when Leviathan was built CF didn't put in that much at the other parks so I wouldn't expect much from them in 2015. Valleyfair! is also not one of CFs bigger money earners like the old Paramount parks (except CGA), and doesn't have much more of a market to draw on, while Carowinds draws from Charlotte as well as most of South Carolina and parts of Georgia and eastern Tennessee.

Also, I am thinking, does the name Centurion really fit the Carowinds theme?
Because as CKidd said, the name seems like it would fit with the whole Hydra and Hercules theme.

I would love if Valleyfair got a new coaster, as long as Excalibur doesn't get removed.

You'd be surprised how busy VF can get. Although it has been getting noticeably emptier every year as we don't get anything new. VF even cancelled their Coaster Craze event this year since they only had like 10 people in attendance last year (the year we got Renegade, and the 2 years after, Coaster Crazy attendance was at least 50-70 per event. I admit that VF isn't as large of a park but I do believe we are getting something new soon.

Your theory is more logical, but we can hope right? xD

Valleyfair hasnt gotten much since 2007 but dorney hasnt gotten anything new since 2006. Both parks deserve a new major marque attraction imo

^ I always thought the last major update was 2005 with Hydra.
What am I missing from 2006?

right 2005, I had 2006 for hydra in my mind. I guess you could reason that possesed and stinger are updates but they're both shuttle inverts plopped right next to each other

Centurion. Pronounced "Century-anne".

Cessna 210 Centurion! This would give us a NC theme. First in Flight. There is also a huge centurion aviation service facility in Fayetteville NC. And since it would be a plane and have wings, thus maybe a wing coaster.
I could definitely see that as the name for the new coaster, especially considering its NC plane connection. Or the whole gaurdian theme being the suppose new entrance gate carowinds is getting is to interact with the ride like CP's Gatekeepr. Either way, I think we're in store for a great new thrill ride.
