Kentucky Kingdom has started to share photos of their new roller coaster, Lightning Run, being built at the park. A few days ago they shared the image above, which shows some of the coaster's taller supports standing in place. I can't be sure, but I think that the supports shown here are for the coaster's second hill.

Image

Today the park shared another image, and this time it shows that some track is also already in place! The outside curve seen here is the one that takes place at the bottom of the first drop, you can also see another curve in place behind it for much later in the ride's course. The curves are very tight, just like in the concept art - this should be a very thrilling ride when completed.

Just as a refresher, here is a shot of Lightning Run's full layout. The section being worked on now is in the lower left corner, immediately following the first plunge.

Maybe that's why they call it 'Lightning' Run, referring to the coaster's speed as well as the construction time table.

That's the right corner Oscar. I thought this ride would suck at first but then I learned Chance Morgan didn't make the layout, so that is a definite plus as the only worthwhile ride they've ever made is Phantom's Revenge

Has the layout changed or has it been so long since I've looked that it looks different
What are these for?

Looking at how steep the first drop is, I bet this coaster will be pretty thrilling. Just like Intamin Mega Lite is a great example of thrill you can't judge from the size! :D

The layout/shaping is designed by the guys who do the RMC coasters. This will be a badass ride.

^How? So the only thing chance Morgan did was fabricate the track and supports..

Also has anyone seen the hot trains?

Designers are often separate contractors/consultants to the company that actually manufacture the track.

For example John Wardley (Nemesis etc) and Werner Stengal of Stengal Engineering (Millennium Force, Mystery Mine) are designers who work with various manufacturers (B&M, Intamin, Gerstlauer)

It's very possible, the trains are also based on those on the RMC woodens.

Anyone know if they're getting new trains or anything for the SLC they insist on keeping?

SLC is getting new trains and to open in 2015.

And yes, Ride Centerline LLC is the company that does designs for RMC and now this coaster.

I think it looks to be the coaster equivalent of that geeky kid that you pick on, only to find yourself on the receiving end when you learn the hard way that said geeky kid has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Yeah looks pretty crazy actually! Doesn't waste time getting up the lift hill either!

That's because it basically is... the track layout was designed by the same company that does RMC's layouts... I think it's called "Centerline Rides" or something.

I think that's quite an acceptable way to describe it.
