Six Flags Mexico Gets Medusa Steel Roller Coaster

I have a pretty big feeling that the "hybrid wooden looper or twister" tracks to glide, are always painted red. Are there any reasons?

Six Flags just keeps choosing red. Also keep in mind Iron Rattler is much more orange than red.

Having actually ridden the original Medusa, I wholeheartedly disagree. It aged very poorly (probably a little worse than Ghostrider at Knott's), and I didn't get the point of using the Gerstlauer trains. Nonetheless, it was a good layout, I will give you that.

Is there a picture of the official new layout? I get the general idea, because I was familiar with the old, There are parts I'm lost on

Finally, theming of a train Six Flags got right!

It's been a while since we checked in on the progress of Medusa Steel Coaster at Six Flags Mexico, and now we find that the ride is looking nearly complete! Six Flags Mexico is converting Medusa, a Custom Coasters wooden ride from 2000 into a twisted mess of track, complete with several inversions.

The park reached a major milestone recently when they started adding the ride's trains to the track, seen above.

The park also shared this close up of the train's face plate, showing off the steel version of Medusa in all her glory. I probably needn't say much more, this is obviously a beautiful looking train!

Meanwhile the crews from Rocky Mountain Construction, which are converting the track into steel running rails, also have been sharing some updates as well. Above is a part of the midsection of the ride, with the lift and inversion-filled first drop in the background. The outer set of track was installed a while ago, but the inside curve is a recent addition. The high bank leads into some pretty twisted track...

Like this! The ride's last inversion, a nice long heartline roll, serves as a finale to the experience. This looks like one of the last sections of track that crews were installing, so perhaps at this point the full circuit is complete!

I haven't seen any word on exactly when Medusa Steel Coaster will open at the park, but I'm sure we're getting close.

This still looks 100X better than goliath which is saying a lot because that too is looking better than what was originally announced

Yeah I would definitely ride this over Golaith, but I'm still very happy Goliath exists instead of Iron Wolf lol.

One thing I love about this is that there are inversions and yet the train just has simple lap bars...

Update!

Another opening date has been announced for one of the class of 2014's most anticipated thrill rides, Six Flags Mexico's Medusa Steel Coaster. The park revealed that the ride will open on June 14th, less than a week from now!

The coaster, which was transformed from its wooden coaster origins into a steel hybrid, has been testing regularly at the park. That means that lucky park visitors have been able to see the ride in action, and even film the trains as they make their runs. Granted most of the ride is obscured by trees, but there's still plenty of action:

The first thing I noticed (aside from how loud it is) was the incredible speed that the trains have! Once they are off the first lift it looks like this one won't be letting up at all. I expected the final heartline inversion to be taken at a pretty leisurely pace, but that's not at all how things turned out.

Between Medusa Steel Coaster's June 14th opening, and Six Flags Great America's Goliath just after, it's going to be an exciting time for both Rocky Mountain Construction and coaster fans.

I wonder if there's a way to quiet it down... but that aside, this looks 100% better than RMC's Goliath IMO.

Havent been much of a fan of these RMC coasters...but this one is growing on me

Yea, it's quite loud, hopefully that quiets down, and yea, this RMC is much better than Goliath!

Goliath's problem is that it's too short.

The loudness might be from having brand news wheels on it. I remember when I was working at CP they put new wheels on raptor and we had to yell at each other over at blue streak when raptor had a train on track it was so loud.

The sound isn't too bad in my opinion. At least it isn't a Vekoma flyer going up the lift hill

I'm not sure why we're comparing Goliath and Medusa so straight-forwardly. One is a custom and one is a retrack. Obviously the custom has to be shorter because it's more expensive to do that.
