Thorpe Park put in Revealing Planning Application!
A new outline planning application for Thorpe Park:
"Outline planning application for installation of rides (not to exceed 65m) and buildings (floorspace upto 8000sqm) in period 2004-2008, partial infilling of lakes and creation of compensation areas, landscaping infrastructure improvements, relocation of part of overflow car park and works to main access from A320"
The plans reveal major new coasters in 2006 and 2008, saying that the 2006 ride will be an Intamin Rocket Coaster (Xcelerator at Knott's Berry Farm is used as an example of this ride). The 2006 ride will be the park's flagship attraction and will be 65m (215ft) tall. The report mentions that a wooden coaster was also considered for the 65m tall flagship ride, but Thorpe Park favours the Hydraulic Coaster due to the density of the wooden coaster's structure creating an eyesore for locals. The 2008 ride features examples of wooden coasters and mega coasters, as it appears the designers have not chosen exactly what type of ride they want yet, although you can expect it to be either a wooden coaster or a mega coaster as per the examples given in the report.
Summary of above document:
Creation of four new islands from filling in parts of the lake - creates new space for rides. Two in manor lake, one in the middle of Loggers Leap and one in Abbey Lake. This expansion creates an additional 4.33 hectares of space for new rides and 5.17 hectares of recovered land.
Extension of height ceiling from 115ft to 215ft.
Existing areas of land are to be flooded - Thorpe Farm South in 2006, Thorpe Farm North in 2007, North Meadow in 2005, and Extension of an existing flood area in 2004. 7.19 hectares of land will be flooded in total, land which is not viable for new rides.
