This is from today's post over at CP.com

"These additions show our commitment to offering our guests the best in family fun for the 2014 season,?????? stated Jason McClure, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. ??????With a collection of 72 rides, including 17 roller coasters, three kids?????? areas, live shows, unique and interesting places to eat and spend the night, Cedar Point offers something fun for everyone.??????

Guess CP is back to 17 coasters again, considering Pipe Scream is basically a coaster, just a shuttle.

Wasn't the first Disko with a bump in the middle called a coaster? Oh well lol it doesn't really matter.

There is a VIP tour that costs $350-$400 dollars per person and allow you to go to the front of every line in Cedar point not all tourist spend these too much expensive money at one trip its good that CP is back..

Pipe Scream is NOT a roller coaster. If Pipe scream is a coaster than any drop tower, water ride is a coaster. This is not a Roller Coaster.
If SFMM pulled this crap, the coaster community would flip out!

I sort of disagree Helo - water rides are generally powered by flow of water - other than water coasters which obviously are considered coasters. Drop towers are interesting ones - I'd suggest perhaps that they only have one plane of moment as to why they're not considered rollercoasters. In all honesty there isn't a great deal of difference between this and stuff like Vertical Velocity.

Not all water rides are log fumes, that are powered by water. Big splash machines like shoot the rapids, and snake river falls, use chain lifts change direction, and most importantly run on track. Still not coasters.
Good point on drop rides, no argument there.

Well Superman at SFMM shouldn't be considered a coaster either in my opinion because it is basically a glorified drop tower.

Really if Superman at SFMM is considered a coaster than Disko coasters should too since at least they have hills an spike's like Impulse coasters. Also I think First-gen Intamin drop towers like demon drop should be coasters as they have lifts, drops, a brake run multiple trains and a full circuit.
All hail your great Arrow Dynamics overlords.

Does it roll and coast? Yes, Roller Coaster.

Log Flumes are technically powered by the flow of water, but they roll and coast at any drops.

The LIM powered platform rides in the W or U shapes technically roll and coast after they reach proper speed.

So technically both a Roller Coaster.... just not fitting the definition for the entire duration of the ride.

You could argue this isn't a roller coaster as it's powered throughout then - therefore it does not "coast". But then - does that mean powered mine train rides on not rollercoasters?

I'm simply saying the park is misleading guests by calling this a roller coaster. This is a family thrill ride at best, not a coaster.
SFMM superman is not a drop machine, it's a speed and airtime machine (over six seconds)

I guess our first inclination is to not call it a roller coaster but I don't exactly see why we shouldn't. It's powered throughout for sure but we have plenty of powered coasters on our official roster.

Would you call a zipline a roller coaster? You coast down a suspended track, a fat cable while being guided by the trolley, which has flange wheels and is propelled by gravity. Mine has brakes at the end. Yes? No?

I've been going to CP since the early 90's. The park is well over 100 years old but it's constantly evolving and new rides are added all the time. The Dragster, the Millennium and the Magnum are the best rides. What makes CP unique is the Lakefront setting. You can always count on a breeze. The park, itself, is very clean and is amazingly well-kept. Cheap it's not, but you get what you pay for and CP offers a lot.

kasi, that literally has nothing to do with this topic...

Look, no matter what, CP calls it a coaster and Mikey's explanation says why, the point is, our discussions aren't gonna change their minds about it.
And in my opinion, if Superman at SFMM is a coaster, then so is Pipe Scream since both rides are under power for a majority of the ride.
