Mudflap? I don't know, honestly. I wonder if that photo was taken very shortly after the trains were added to the track, in which case it could just be from how the trains were packaged/transported.

Edit: This is really going to bug me. I'm going to see if anyone at King's Dominion can get me an answer.
Edit2: I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow to call.
Edit the third: Called KD and left a message. Waiting for a call back.

Just spotted some on the Road Rail Vehicles here at work - I shall query someone who might know this afternoon!

Maverick has those as well. I can check if MF has them tomorrow because I'm not sure if it does or not.

Could be for the noise the coaster makes while on the track.

I have come to the conclusion that we are not supposed to know what these are for.

Were slightly different on the RRV I was looking at - construction guy reckoned they were just mud/grease flaps (railways are grimy)

Yeah sounds about right.
Grease can be seen flying on coasters like TTD, but it's cables mostly.
Where on the coaster would it need mud-flaps? The lift?

It is for static electricity, you see it at cars sometimes too.
Image

It's caused by friction on the wheels with the track.
And with that flap the static electricity on the train is passed to the track.
Otherwise you get a shock if you touch the train, like you experience on a plastic slide.

But the next question is why isn't it on every train then?

Ahh interesting - Swarm (B&M Wingrider) has bristles near the wheels that I noticed when I visited last weekend for the same purpose - then girlfriend noticed a spark post brake run!

Perhaps maybe that only at a certain speed and train style that the wheels have enough friction to produce static electricity?
