So, there's a lot of speculation going on with Mantis. Recently there's test paint on it and now there's wallpaper showing up with info from 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999 but no 1996. We all know what got installed in 1996 and that is Mantis. We also know the additions or other significant changed in the years that are mentioned. Why purposely exclude 1996 from it all?

I think this is deliberate exclusion of Mantis on these info wallpapers going up and the test paint showing up is an indication of a major change coming. The layout of Mantis is perfect for a floorless coaster. Sure some modifications will need to happen for it to go floorless such as the station needing changing and sections of the track. The idea isn't far fetched and they can tout this as something new for the park.

My money is on CP converting Mantis into a floorless coaster over the winter break for a 2015 debut.

What do you guys think?

^I think that would be awesome. Mantis isn't exactly one of the most popular rides in the park, plus most stand up rides are uncomfortable. I really hope they re-theme the coaster like they did with Medusa @SFGA if they go through with this.

I could see it happening, and definitely wouldn't mind it. The standing up is interesting and unique but painful :) The layout is perfect for a floorless coaster!

Only time will will tell with what they are going to do. They also said that they were ready to commit to the tweet about renaming one of their rides the King James. Maybe this could be it?

So, yeah... That heartline....
Oh, were you expecting something here?

I prefer stand up to floorless to be honest. This could be a possibility but i would prefer they stick with stand up. Its kind of more unique than floorless.
Would this change make Mantis a record breaking floorless?

I don't think the heartline difference is a big deal. I kinda doubt it'd be that noticeable except maybe at the first turn after the lift where the transition is tight. Don't know if this will happen but it's plausible.

Agreed. However, lowering the heartline makes it less forceful. For all you guys saying it isn't a big deal, try this experiment in NL2.

Create a standup coaster in FVD++, Newton, or whatever your weapon of choice is. Make sure your forces are accurate between NL and any external programs.

Change the ride type from standup to floorless.

Note the changes in force.

Rinse and repeat.

I wouldn't mind it as a floorless. My nether regions would thank me.

I think this thread title could use a question mark at the end ;P

In my eyes, the 1st drop for Mantis looks a bit steeper than other B&M Floorless coasters. By the way, will that trim be removed after the biggest modification, because the new train gets much lighter? ;)

I would love for this to happen. However I don't understand how you guys are getting this just from a paint job.

While that is more relevant to enthusiasts, it is not so much for the general public. They'd rather ride something numerous times that doesn't beat them up as Mantis does now. Well, most of the GP says Mantis is painful. If it is converted to a sitdown, whether floorless or other, it will be a more comfortable experience for the GP. This gives them a win in both making something old into something new and converting something that isn't doing so well with the guests into something that could be very popular and liked.

There's other sources than just the paint job 8-)

Uhh... First standup to be converted into a floorless? :D But seriously that drop would be a bit steep for a floorless

Hello there! New to the forum here but I read the comment " the drop looks too steep" and maybe you guys never heard of this ride but its called "Medusa" at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo,CA aka my home park :) but it drops 150 feet so maybe it is possible! It would be pretty cool as a floorless though!

Oh it's definitely possible, just more or less not likely, but since it's CP, I think it's definitely possible.
