I'm looking to dump around 1200 dollars after my next paycheck later in the week into a new laptop, preferably one that can run NL2 at a minimal level. I have plans for a real desktop later but I need some career-related pieces to fall into place. I don't need it to be touchscreen or flip around on itself or anything obnoxious like that. Anyone have any suggestions that are not Macs?

I feel like if you're trying to spend more than a grand you can probably get something that runs NL2 pretty damn well, right? Also I hope this isn't rude but I'm also in the market for a new laptop if anyone stops by here to just drop random suggestions. Any suggestions regarding graphics cards would probably be helpful for both CKidmwm and myself.

If a laptop is a must have, go Alienware. http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-14/pd?ref=PD_OC

Otherwise, $1200 can get you a killer gaming PC.

Do keep in mind that with Alienware laptops, you'll basically need a giant briefcase to carry it around.

I got an Alienware 14, it weights 6 pounds, compared to the Alienware 17 which weights 9 pounds. Size really matters.

I would recommend an Alienware, if you can't have a desktop. They are expensive, but for the higher price, you get a better looking laptop cool features like lights and stuff lol.

The best thing I would say about alienware is that their built like tanks, feels very solid.

All last year I was in the same position your in, and I found the Alienware 14 with a few upgrades was a better deal than any other laptops. It had all the features I was looking for, but it cost $1500

I understand a killer desktop can be made for the price I have set. However I can't do that right now....

Yea, I would go either Dell or Alienware, those have been the best to me.

Mines an acer and it runs pretty good for me most of the time. Unless someone completely over does a ride in lights.

Manufacturer rarely has any bearing on performance. It's what's inside that decides that.

That being said, if you want to run NL2 fairly well with few issues you're going to need the following:

RAM: 6 GB minimum
CPU: 2.4 - 2.5 GHz minimum
HDD/SSD - Do I really need to explain how much space you're going to need?
GPU - Ideally something dedicated

With all that said, something like this would do the job for you inside of your price range. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834317538

I've just always had "better" computers from Dell. Just a opinion I guess but still.

If your buying a computer, don't even worry about the RAM, most software doesn't even need more than 4, unless its something like video software, engineering programs.

Spent the money to upgrade the graphics card, then everything else.

Thanks guys I was looking one that was recommended by Nightwind. I can't bring myself to buy an Alienware. They're like going to an anime convention.

While I agree, it's built specifically for what you want to do.
