Cedar Fair: Coaster Conspiracy?

This has happened to roller coasters before, but I haven't thought about it recently.



What if Cedar Fair currently has the rights to giga coaster design from Intamin and B&M? Nobody else in the planet would be interested in getting one in the last 14 years? As much global GP as they draw? These rides are as much of a crown for the builders as it is for the parks. And the single one thing builders need to prove themselves and how awesome they can build is >>>LAND WITH NO RESTRICTIONS<<< and Cedar Fair has that forever in their parks. I can only imagine the offers and deals they toss back and forth when it comes to coaster size and land usage. What if part of it for giga design was exclusive chain design for XX years? I wonder if the switch to B&M would have something to do with it. And what deal would they get out of it

Cedar Fair is giving Intamin the silent treatment right now because of the breakdowns i.e. Shoot the Rapids. I guess B&M's are more reliable but Intamin Gigas are so aesthetically pleasing.

^I couldn't agree more. It really sucks that they don't deal with intamin anymore. Actually, most of their coasters have been by B&M and not many other manufactures. It seems Hershey has a bromance with Intamin, and Cedar Fair has a bromance with B&M so to speak.

That's an interesting concept Luckyk. I didn't even think of that. The only giga coaster not built by Cedar Fair was Steel Dragon 2000, but that was by chance morgan.

However, if they had switched to B&M for their gigas, other parks may have installed ones by Intamin, as those are the ones that really can draw a crowd. Another thing to consider is that most parks may not be able to afford one of these by either manufacture. The big chain parks are Cedar Fair and Six Flags, and the latter refuses to install them because they think it wouldn't be worth the money (but it is). I believe after they built Tatsu and spent $25 million, they said they would never spend that much money on one coaster again, and Giga Coasters cost within that range. Six Flags' philosophy is to build attractions that will bring people to the park that will not cost them too much money. Cedar Fair likes to go big on every attraction, and believes that if you build it big enough, they will come.
Unless the Six Flags scheduled to open in Dubai debuts with a giga coaster, (which is rumored to be by B&M) I think we will see pigs fly before they install a giga.

But another aspect of it is the fact that when the hyper coaster became ridiculously popular back in the late 90s, Cedar Fair didn't install any of them by B&M, while Six Flags went absolutely mad with them, putting them in every one of their parks. After a few years, Cedar Fair started installing them at their parks. If you think about giga coasters, you can see the same thing could possibly happen. Maybe in the future Six Flags may start installing a newer gen or something of that sort, but we're just gonna have to wait and see.

Would be bs if they did and that'd be like saying all wooden coasters built from here on may only be built in SF parks.

side note: am I the only one that really dislikes the Intamin double spine?

Seriously though, I don't understand why they used a double spine instead of just using the 4-rail box track. They both serve the same purpose right? Still, I love just how pretty the double spine is.

I love the double spine and square supports. I think it looks really cool, and I guess it is more efficient than the 4 tube box style, and allows then to use less supports.

^^ They got a request from a customer to reduce the amount of supports on their coasters so they added the double spine to compensate.

Thanks for the video! When I first saw I305's double spine, I really didn't care for it, it reminded me too much of Premier track, and at the time I didn't much care for Premier coasters overall (their spaghetti bowls are nightmarish but the Mr. Freeze clones are pretty good and I hear good things about their newer efforts). I'm used to it now, but I do prefer the traditional Intamin track style. Also I think Skyrush has about the ugliest lift I've seen, it looks too much like an erector set.

As far as Cedar Fair having any exclusivity deals, I wouldn't be surprised if they had one with B&M, but I think I simple package deal would be more likely. I wouldn't doubt it if they bought 3 gigas like they did with the hypers, and there may be an even bigger contract at play than that.
