I saw that no one on CoasterCrazy has done a trip report for Valleyfair for quite a long time, so I figured that I might as well make one out of my last visit. This is my first trip report on CoasterCrazy, so I'm open to any constructive criticism if this TR isn't that great.
I took my last trip of the year to my home park last Sunday on October 26th. It was a very fun day at the park. The park was dead, so I never had to wait more than 5-8 minutes for anything . Because of the short lines had 31 total rides throughout the day. It was a bit chilly (temps in the 50s-low 60s), but really not bad at all for late October in Minnesota. Most of the rides and coasters were running pretty good. Overall, I had a really great time, and I'll let the pictures tell the rest...
A bit of an awkward way to start a TR, but this is High Roller coming back on the brake run. I think High Roller is a fun old-school woodie, but the trim brake at the end of the first turnaround kills most of the airtime the rest of the ride.
Up next was Wild Thing, which was running surprisingly good for late in the season, but my thumbs down is for the slow one-train operations .
The sign for Xtreme Swing, Valleyfair's terrific S&S Screamin' Swing.
Some nice fall foliage near Wild Thing.
The Taste of Valleyfair food truck.
Steel Venom, Valleyfair's awesome Intamin Impulse coaster, heading up the first spike right after being launched.
I got stuck here twice on Steel Venom for a brief time today. Don't know exactly why. Probably because of Intamin's infamous reliability issues.
A Wild Thing train going through the mid-course trims. Despite the trimming, I still got decent airtime on the return hills. You can also see a part of our dormant amphitheater, which really needs to get demolished since it's sitting on some prime land for something new and amazing.
A sign advertising Valleyfair's 2015 waterpark expansion. I'm overall very happy with this expansion because it is bringing something thrilling to the park for the first time since 2007 (Renegade).
The spot where the new slide tower will be going.
This is the spot where a restroom once stood. It's a good thing they got rid of it because the corner it sat near was awful when it came to visitor traffic flow. Walking through this area should feel a lot less claustrophobic next year.
The construction area from a different angle.
Excalibur, our old Arrow steel-hybrid coaster (same coaster type as Gemini at CP) is always closed during ValleyScare. It's not that great of a ride so no one was missing out on anything.
A wall of cornstalks blocking access to the back of the park where Excalibur is.
Renegade, VF's great GCI, and the best coaster in the park, coming back towards the station.
Corkscrew pulling into the station. Even though it's just an Arrow corkscrew coaster, it is a pretty smooth one, and it has a nice location.
A long-distance shot of Valleyfair's old sign, which will be replaced this offseason with a new electronic message sign. The new sign will be a much appreciated upgrade, but I will miss the charm this sign gave the park.
The sun shining behind Wild Thing.
I rode Renegade 68 times this season. This is the ride I'm really going to miss over the long and cold offseason.
I'm sad to see the 2014 season come to a close, but it was overall a terrific year. See you next year, Valleyfair!
Well, that's it for my trip report. Let me know what you think below.
