Hi! So, a couple years ago we teamed up with the motion simulator company InMotion for a NL contest. Basically the members had to make a coaster to be used in their motion simulators and Austin won that contest and got cash reward for it.

Fast forward to today and I am here to gather feedback from you. How long would you say it would take you to build a roller coaster that is fully themed? It does not have to be realistic as the roller coaster has to have fast sharp turns and must non invert. It should be about 4 to 6 minutes long.

Please post your input below, we were approached by a different company today and I am gathering input to give to them and also negotiating prize money, rights, etc.

So yeah, the sooner we have feedback, the sooner I can mash the details and get back to the negotiation table with them,

Thanks,
Oscar

Several weeks to think of a theme and plan stuff, and several weeks to make the theming itself, probably. Do the G-forces need to be realistic or can it be a death coaster?

from what I remember from previous contest. It can be a death coaster.

Fully themed 4-6 minutes high speed death coaster? I think that would cost me months to make. Than again, I haven't build/finished a (themed) ride a long time.

Well it all depends on how much detail you can put into the time limit. In fact if give a year, some people will work an entire year to get everything perfect the way they want it.

In essence these type of things are aimed at originality in 3d design and that what works in a motion simulator. So yeah it doesn??????t need to be realistic but that doesn??????t mean a lack of effort by the designer. So this competition would rather be who can design the most original fantasy design and theme it well given the x time frame.

I remember Austin??????s coaster and it hit the nail on the head on what these people are looking for. However for a real time renderer we were quite limited back then in regards with poly count and the detail of such a ride, especially comparing to rendered cg footage. But now I think a NL coaster can really shake the simulator environment.

100% death coaster. Where 100g's sustained for a minute is perfectly fine lol

I'd say on average, probably 3-5 days to get a solid layout and idea of theme. Then another 3-5 days actually creating the scenery, whether it be 3DS objects or supports. :)

For something that long maybe 6-8 weeks due to the scenery required!

I think 2 months is fair. If I remember right it was about a month and a half for the imotion contest and you can do so much more with NL2.
What are these for?

So I am getting the general feeling that 1-2 months is the general feeling here.
Which seems about right since the other contest was a month and a half long.

If we're going by my schedule, you'd need several months to finish a single park

If I wasn't so busy with different school stuff, I'd say 2 months at the most to finish up. That gives more than enough time to iron out little details, and make the scene work pretty extensive

We're still in talks, sorry for not updating. I gave them 2 months timeline and we're working out details about it.
