The ride itself stayed the same, the track and trains not so much. Let's get you up to speed.
SROS was perfect as it was, great trains no gimmicks nothing. Then the Six Flags we know and love said "Omg!1!1! L3ts m41k n3w c0l0r3s 4nd tr41ns 4nd 4dd f1r3!111!!1"
Then we got a purple repaint, new trains with audio, a re-theme, and a fire effect. Some time later, there were idiots reaching out for the fire and too many birds accidentally flew into it so no more fire effect. Then, the audio broke and you could only hear it on the way up and then it just stopped completely and Six Flags made no effort to fix it. The ride today rides fine, but is in bad condition in terms of maintenance. It breaks down on a daily basis and the paint is faded and chipping.
This is why I am so excited for the rebirth of this ride. It will restore it to its former glory and hopefully remove the gimmicks. Knowing Six Flags, however, they will market it as a new coaster.
