2016 - Shot Rod / New Coaster - (4/2/15) I believe we have the name to Dollywood's 2016 hot rod themed attraction. Herschend files for a new trademark to use the name SHOT ROD on March 19th, 2015. The description of the application says "Entertainment services in the nature of an amusement park ride, namely, a roller coaster with a classic car theme".

Xcelerator Dollywood style anyone? :P

It still looks like it's going to be a launched RMC woodie to me, but they could surprise us with something else.

I hope an Xcelerator gets built closer to the east coast!

RMC's been working on it. But...

They have many new ideas that are in the research and design process now. Again, unfortunately, we cannot provide any additional details until one of the designs is sold to a park as they will want to do the initial press release.

Yeah, unfortunately for manufacturers, no matter how much they may want to announce projects, they aren't allowed....personally that would kill me

It's to prevent parks like Six Flags butting in and buying one and pouring a footer first and claiming that they had the world's first launching wooden coaster.

I feel like we need to highlight X Flight being announced soon after Wild Eagle and Six Flags trying to finish it first.

I dunno, a launched woodie just doesn't make that much sense to me. A ride along the lines of Powderkeg would make more sense.

A launched woodie? I understand the skepticism there. But a launched RMC? I don't know, but RMC is already able to do some very interesting things with chain lifts, and a launch would only diversify their arsenal. Think of how cool the layouts and element combinations could be!

I know Timberliners are launch capable. But RMC more than likely has this one in the bag. I'm really looking forward to seeing this happen.

Current prediction from what I've read: "Shot Rod" RMC launch. No inversions, just airtime. Lot's of terrain use. RMC has the technology for sure, I'm thinking LSMs on an incline. Not dueling (like some have predicted). Wait and see I guess.

It goes like this: SDC, 2013, "World's Only Inverting wooden Coaster". Dollywood, 2016, "World's First Launching Wooden Coaster". :D :D :D

^Your theory makes a lot of sense. They would have something to market for sure if they did it like that. By the way you posted twice by accident.

Sounds like a good prediction, though I wouldn't be surprised if they threw in an inversion or two.

I'd rather have a company that knows how to make a launched ride than an RMC to be honest. Perhaps it'll be another Gerstlauer.

Shot Rod - what an awesome ride name because it's more of an extreme version than a well-known hot rod! The typical "Hot Rod" has a really big image of a rocket specially in comics! Then no wonder Shot Rod will be a wooden launcher! I also had a feeling that the letter "S" meant... Super, Supreme, Spectacular, Superman, (just joking) and so forth! :)

My bet is on a "Mack" daddy of a ride. DW spent a lot of time at Europa Park about three years ago.

I would actually rather see Mack than RMC. I've experienced several RMC coasters at this point, but never a large-scale Mack (their Wild Mouse coasters are not bad, lol). I wouldn't be disappointed with or surprised by either, though.

Welcome to the forum!

Mack does seem like a viable candidate and I really want Mack to build a large scale launcher in America.
