Since I am home for the summer and working part time, I decided that with all my free time I have, I would do something I have never done before. While I am working on Part II of KG X NL2 (titled Origination) and Bang Bang!, an Intamin 2nd Gen. Rocket, I have also been searching through old files. Upon deleting a lot of crappy rides and half-finished designs, I came across a couple really strong ones that I wanted to have a second look at. This is the first of them.

CrossFire, originally named Firechaser, was the ride that stood out the most to me as a potential candidate for releasing. While working on it a couple days ago, I thought about turning the little lakeside area that it resides in into a small park. Thus, the two rides that surround it were born in a matter of a day or two, and now, I???m documenting the park???s growth beyond just the rides being built.


Joan of Arc is a ???really old??? wooden coaster that, in reality, is about as old as me. I kept the idea that it was build in 1994 and got new trains for it???s 20th anniversary in 2014, hence the nice new PTC trains that are now on the old, creaky structure. I imagine Joan of Arc was once a really popular ride, but what was once the most thrilling ride in the park has taken a backseat to modern thrills. Now, it holds the place of the ???classic and nostalgic??? ride along the water???s edge.

CrossFire came next in the construction time period. I estimate it being built around 1999-2000, as it has a similar feeling to both Kumba and it???s younger sibling, Wildfire. It harkens back to the more forceful, popular Sit-Down B&M designs that still can stand in a world full of wing and floorless designs. It is the tallest and fastest ride in the park, and is thought to be the highlight attraction in a prime location.

Octane, the third ride of the park, is a small Intamin Accelerator; think Rita at Alton Towers, yet smaller. It has a 0 ??? 50 mph launch in about two seconds before it performs a figure-8 layout in less than 30 seconds. It was built around 2005-06 and holds the place of a family attraction that is still thrilling, yet not as intense as CrossFire is. Octane could be considered the ???middle-man??? between CrossFire and Joan of Arc.

***An S&S Launching Tower and Round-Up are also on the ride list, and I am looking to add more rides to the mix when I find locations for them.

But why start documenting now? Why not before when I was making Joan of Arc and Octane? Well, I guess I have something else in mind???

Since Mossy Grounds has passed it???s expired time of receiving a coaster (approximately every 5-6 years) as one was due for the 2011-12 season, the park seems to be saving up their extra pennies for something pretty ???big.??? While I do not know what it is myself as I have not designed it yet, nor have any idea what I will design, that part is up to all of you. As the park grows and becomes more ???alive???, I will be asking questions as to what route you think the next attraction should follow in terms of manufacturer, type, style, layout, etc. Essentially, you will all be offering suggestions and voting on what the ride should be, and then I will design it.

However, here is the catch: once I announce the final ride design/type that you have all selected, I will only have 72 hours to design it, support it, perfect it, and then release it (POV + off ride video). I want to see what comes out of only three days to work on something when it usually takes me weeks or months on end. It will be a challenge for me, but also for you since you have to come up with what kind of ride you all would like to see!

Since you are all discovering what Mossy Grounds has to offer right now, start suggesting! Tell us what you would like to see build for the upcoming season. There are ???no limits??? (see what I did there) to what can occur; however, there are some desires from park management:

1. Must be over 3,000 ft. in length
2. Must be taller than CrossFire (at one or two instances)
3. Must be the fastest coaster in the park
4. Must be suitable for families to enjoy
5. Must feature inversions (at least three)
6. Must be located alongside the lake
7. Must be able to carry 20+ passengers per train
8. Cannot go over or under any other roller coaster that is currently standing
9. Must feature a unique element that has not been seen on any other roller coaster

Now that you have seen what the park wants, what do you think would be the best fit? Remember to keep these requirements in mind!

World's first Mack hypercoaster, also featuring a barrel roll? B&M giga with a zero-g stall? I'm not feeling particularly inventive, but the park is off to a good start. The only bit of shaping I find questionable is the lead in and pull out of the zero g roll on Crossfire.

Interesting idea, and I like how the park looks so far! Could we get more information on CrossFire though, like speed and height, so we could figure out what design would be best? It would help a ton!

If he made the zero G roll roll over in the other direction you'd be fine with it. The second pic on the woodie looks like a massive collision, otherwise I see no problems and the B&M especially looks great.

The zero-g roll has been edited over and over. I had it going the other way initially, but since there is a trim brake on the other end of it before a large turn, I did not want a roll to the right followed by a turn to the left; it felt a little jerky. This way it flows from a roll to the left into a left turn. The entrance to the zero-g looks a little funky, but do not worry, it rides perfectly fine. :D


Anymore suggestions as to what's coming next? A name and idea hit me while I was driving on my way to work, but it could work with a couple of ride styles, so keep suggesting what you would like to see!

i don't think I've seen an NL2 coaster with a really curved station before, maybe that could be the ride's unique part?

I would love to see a Mack Launch! Here are some ideas I think you could incorporate into the design if you went with a mack.



Stats:

3 Launches (1-50 mph, 2-80, 3-60)

Elements in order: Station, small drop, launch, overbank, loop, Immelmann, Dive Loop, second launch, top hat, airtime hill, Norwegian loop, Dive Loop, Airtime hill, Overbank, Twists, MCBR, drop, third launch, Unique inverted top hat element that is on Helix @ Liseburg, airtime hills, corkscrew, small overbanks, Helix, in line twist, brakes, and finally back to station.

It would surpass everything else in your park in Height, Length, and speed. It is fun for everyone as it has loops, hills, high forces, low forces, and it includes 3 launches.

Within the past couple of days, park management has been narrowing down manufacturers and have come up with a list ranked from most favored to least:

1. B&M
2. Gerstlauer, Mack
3. Intamin

They said B&M sits at the top because of CrossFire - it has great reliability, minimal downtime, and is the most favored ride in the park. Recent B&M creations such as Banshee and Thunderbird have caught the attention of management as well.

Gerstlauer and Mack sit in the middle out of interest in The Smiler and Helix. The only debate here is reliability and downtime; park management wonders whether or not a Gerstlauer or Mack could withstand the day-in day-out wear and tear of park goers like CrossFire has.

Intamin is at the bottom of the list due to Octane's faulty opening season. It had trouble getting on its feet with frequent downtime (a couple days on end at one point!) and one minor structural issue during construction. While Intamin has produced amazing rides, especially SkyRush, the frequent downtime of Octane in the beginning is a turn off toward the manufacturer.

If you go with B&M I would do something totally different. Possibly a wingrider with a never seen before element or a Launched invert.

A night guard caught this on camera last night. He reported it to park management, workers, etc., and no one knows anything about it. Sounds as if Mossy Grounds has more than just security hanging around when the sun goes down...

I love this devlog :P :D Always appreciate the additional details when making a construction thread!

It's a tad late now but I would've considered holding the banking on the 0g a little longer rather than banking it back to
0(ish) then starting the roll. It's difficult due to the entry but I see what people are saying. It's a bit like what Baron does but your 0g is over a smaller timeframe so it seems a little out of sync. I think its good as it is though just maybe a thought for the future.

UPDATE 1: We have been flanged!

Flanges are in on CrossFire's custom supports and all of the supports on Octane!

The only thing that seems to be questionable is the entrance to the ride. Anyone have any tips or pointers on how to make this safer?

Up next is ride entrance plazas, as mentioned. I would love to get some really cool signage for every ride, but I do not know how to make that, nor have the means of doing so. Again, any suggestions? I would like to have queue line fencing and established "entrance" and "exit" areas for the rides too.

Octane's entrance would be where it's logo is, and then in the center of the second turn there would be a courtyard-like sitting circle?

Also, here is an aerial shot of the park so far. I will be doing a video for all three rides with off-ride and POV's next week (fingers crossed) so that you can see all of that. I'm actually a fan of all three rides! Sometimes I do not even like my own stuff. :lol:

The other side of the lake that sort of wraps around by Octane is where the they are looking to build the "next big thing." I have also heard rumors that this iconic shot of CrossFire will change:

I guess something will come and overshadow that great dive loop on the little peninsula. What would you like to see?!

Trees and foliage are next on the list. However, that will not take very long. Foliage update will come by Wednesday!

Isn't that video weird? That scream or sound, whatever it is, freaked me out the first time I heard it. I'm not behind any of that, so I have no idea what's going on with it. Ghosts, werewolf, a monster? Who knows...

The shaping looks off at the beginning of the roll because it's coming in at only 20 degrees vs. the 45-50 degrees it's pulling at the base of the loop before hand. Also, there is a trim brake following the zero-g, therefore it's strict at 0 before heading into that left hand turn. What if I flipped it the other way as others have suggested? The ride was originally designed with the zero-g going the other way, so I will see what that looks like again and include it in the next update if I like it. I just did not want rightward roll followed by a turn to the left. It felt off to me.

Yeah like I said it's tough - especially with the trim brake there. I don't think what you have is bad - and to be fair changing it could well be much worse. I think switching the way it rolls probably won't help much as you say - it'll feel a little off.

Really love the story and theme that you've set up here! :D But as others have mentioned, that trim brake after the zero-g is just in the wrong place, the laterals would be quite painful I'd imagine going from consistent roll rate to a sudden stop, then suddenly starting a roll again. Just my opinion but I'd try and move it if possible if I was you. Aside from that, good job, and keep it up with the suspenseful story. :)

I actually shifted the roll to the other direction, and it rides perfectly fine. The lateral G's don't go above 0.45, but that comes with the territory of a zero-g roll. The POV with it the other way also still is fine; I wondered if the roll the other way would affect the flow of the ride, but it does not at all.

The story is on its way as there is only ONE MORE DAY to vote for what's coming in 2015! Better vote while you can before the phantom disappears...

The results are in....drum roll please...

It's a Mack! Woot woot. All of you Mackers out there must be extremely excited! I know that when I found out the results, I was not surprised as most of the public was recommending that, but now that it is actually coming true it is going to be fantastic.

However, I received an email today with this video...
