DOSWELL, Va. ??? The Shockwave ??? Kings Dominion???s stand-up roller coaster ??? will be retired this summer. The final ride will take place August 9. Kings Dominion said it planned to shutdown the roller coaster in order to expand the Candy Apple Grove section of the theme park where the Shockwave has thrilled riders since 1986.

???While it???s bittersweet to say goodbye to one of our older coasters, we???re excited for what the future holds,??? Pat Jones, Vice President and General Manager of Kings Dominion, said. ???The park has evolved so much over the past 40 years and as Kings Dominion continues to grow, we???re committed to enhancing the overall experience for our guests. We???re happy that Shockwave was able to provide close to three decades of memories.???

The park said more than 22 million people have taken the two-minute ride on Shockwave.

I am thinking floorless or sitdown conversion instead of removing it. They know standup to floorless is possible and KD is owned by Cedar Fair so maybe they might just try to sit it down instead of take it down.

RMC redo? I think either that or it could be using Viper GAdv's trains. Both are definitely plausible outcomes. Definitely.

Huh, that's kinda surprising. I'm willing to bet that a new coaster is coming next year now.

Maybe a coaster that's not so big. Well if the former ride area is taken into consideration, a mini Intamin "Accelerator" would be there! :)

Found this in an article from the Richmond Times-Dispatch about Shockwave's closing:
Kings Dominion plans to make an announcement on a replacement next month.

I guess that means we should expect something other than grass to occupy Shockwave's location in 2016. :)

It was only a matter of time after Skyrider closed.

You have to sit on the brake run on shockwave for forever it seems after you get through the layout.

Bet it gets replaced with a dark ride.

Deere seems to have nailed it lol. It really is the end of Cedar Fair standups.

Shockwave wasnt too bad, but the transitions were very rough, the chainlift is almost as slow as one of cool5's jetcoasters, and like cool5 just said you sit on the brake run forever because to loading process is eternally long.

That being said I found this out right after planning a trip to KD yesterday. Im going on July 18th, give or take a day or two, and I'm definitely going to get my last ride on Shockwave. Maybe they'll do a celebration like Carowinds for Thunder Road? I'd like to get some little souvenir.

Im actually surprised they're removing it this soon, I thought it had 1 or 2 years left. (If anything, they should have removed Hurler). This basically confirms a new coaster for 2016 or 2017, and I'm sure whatever they replace it with will be worth it

ANYTHING they replace it with, will have a MUCH quicker loading process. I'm sure about that.

^Yeah capacity will be a huge factor in the new attraction. It will for sure be a B&M because that's the only manufacture CF is going to (heck, even on CF's website the only track type is B&M track)

The loading process is long on all standup coasters because people cant get the simple concept of standing with your feet flat on the floor and waiting for the restraints to lock. Im sure CKid knows exactly what I'm talking about having operated Mantis.

GCI, zamperla, and intamin would like to say high. OK, yes they weren't major coasters but the point is CF isn't dedicaded to B&M. Their building rides they need, and B&M has been showing up the competition. Once they need a product B&M doesn't build/won't build/ won't build the best you'll see a different manufacturer. Same can be said for every single company out their.

I think this one is going to get sold off as well. Would be a shame to see another stand-up leaving, even if it's a togo.

I feel as though this was the better standup compared to Skyrider. Skyrider had this weird trick track section that is horrid.

Even though Skyrider had the weird tricktrack. It also had a spot with huge ejector air. Which is just insane when you're on a stand up coaster.
