Expectations are so high.

Everyone else is so talented.

It's a very high bar, even for this site's standards.

There's always that disdain for unrealistic roller coasters, too. :geek:

But, then again, I still am relatively new to the program. I want to share some of my rides, but I want to make sure all the advice I've read is used before I present anything.

How long did it take you before you released your first track?

Haven't even realesed my first major track yet! Creating a thread for my park was a good idea, more talented users would look at my coasters and give me feedback on how i can improve them :) Here is an example from my thread:

I haven't been on Coastercrazy for over a year, but I have gotten back into it. I am currently working on a theme park and here is a little teaser. The screenshot only features a small section of the park, and the park will only get bigger! I'm not going to come up with any release dates or any "Coming soons!" just yet, because the project has a potential to take much longer than I think it will. More Screenshots to come! :D

Park is looking pretty nice so far! Although there should be more supporting on the strata coaster. The horizontal beams are too space apart.

More than a few people will tell you on here to design rollercoasters for yourself - and if you do that whatever people write in ratings you can look at them objectively and use them to improve if you like - in most cases good raters will point out what they liked about your ride so you should always get some positive feedback :)

If you make a ride that isn't realistic - don't use the realistic category. The fantasy category is there for that exact reason!

I released my first NL1 track without any input from anyone on the site - I'd been designing offline then found out about coastercrazy/weeweeslap afterwards. I was pretty new and the atmosphere was significantly different (NL1 was a far harder programme to build great coasters in - so people were more forgiving of relatively bad tracks and the really good designers stood out a mile from anyone else!). It was rubbish and got rubbish ratings - I went on and released another rubbish coaster (I got comments such as "This is a bad joke toght?" and the ever inspiring "this ride got kinda boring after the first drop so improve". But I was designing for myself so I just tried to take comments on board and kept designing!

Thanks for the quick replies. Words of encouragement is needed.

^ I will give my flying coaster a try, mkingy. I'm not done with it yet, because I want to add some rocks and a station, but it will be my first.

It's called "The Bugatti Super Sport"

^^ Thanks for sharing your NL1 story. Back to what year? Before track smoothing tools such as AHG and Newton2 were released? :)

^ You should release your B&M Flyer! We want you to do that! :)

I think AHG may have been in its early iterations but I'm fairly certain Newton2 didn't exist when I began designing. My first upload was May 15th, 2004 so a good 11 years ago! I believe NoLimits 1.3 had just been released with all the wooden rollercoasters.

Eh, it depends on who is looking at it, really. Like I am one to look for realism and accuracy to the company style and shaping, but not everyone does. It won't hurt to post anything, you will at least get some feedback hopefully (though we are all bad at rating/reviewing). My first tracks back in 2003-2004 were so bad I had oscar delete them all lol. Everyone has to start somewhere. Just...check the G-forces and make sure it wont kill riders, and you've got yourself a coaster.

I feel like if I uploaded my very first NL1 tracks from 2008 on here and if I had Oscar delete them cuz I got better, I might eventually come to regret it since it would feel kinda like changing history, even if they got 0.25 ratings. It's always interesting to see how far a designer has come, even if earlier creations were 'cringe-worthy.'

I feel old reading this  I still have WoodMagic somewhere laying around, which was used for generating wood-like supports for coasters pre-NL1.3.

This place isn't full of individuals who attack anything that isn't perfect and insanely realistic like NLE.

^true that. It's fine if your coasters get a low rating, it just means that you have a lot to improve on. My first coasters came out very bad and unrealistic, but as I kept making more and more and paying attention to what I did wrong I got better and better at designing them. Watching a lot of POVs and looking at other peoples coasters is a good idea too because their skill sorta rubs off on you.
It's been a long time

If you can't beat them, then upload something in a category they won't follow.

RCT anyone?

Or you could upload anyway and learn from your mistakes.

^ Agreed. Just grow a thicker skin to negative feedback. We live in a democracy, and it's unreasonable to censor every single comment that might be offering criticism. Staff here and on other coaster sites ensure that comments are reasonable. If you still don't like them, report them, if they remain, then you are just going to have to accept them or turn a blind eye to them. But with that attitude, you're going to have a hard time on the internet.

My advice is that you carry on making rides and sharing them. NL2 is still relatively new, and you'll just fit in with the rest of the noobies. Members typically take a much kinder approach to these members. Before long, you'll be producing decent rides and getting scores and feedback that you would prefer. Staff will have your back, so just muck in and have fun. The key is for you not to take this all too seriously. It's not a career, its something you do in your free time, so it should be fun.
