You REALLY shouldn't have held it with yur thumb on the inserts. Anyway, thats cool, have fun. If I was gettin one, I think you should've gotten a Radeon 9800 Pro cause its more powerful, but I have no objections to that.

Please explain to me, someone who has buildling computers for 6 years, how touching the "inserts" is bad. Please enlighten me.

I hate ATI, that's why I bought a Nvidia. I am not going to discuss it.

Oh yeah, gouldy, I didn't ask for your opinion on the cleanliness of my room.

[8D]AWESOMENESS![8D]

I need to get a new one.

Ditto on ATI...those pissheads; I hate them. I'd go with Nvidia anyday [approve]

Obvioulsy, as you mentioned (cause you're a computer GENIUS) that touching them is not bad. SMer, unless you use all the strength in your hands to BEND the inserts, it does no harm.

PS--That room is spotless compared to mine [;)] [lol]

Another thing is to bend that insert, you would bust the plastic stuff the card is made of. Have you ever broken a computer card? It's a VERY hard thing to do. In case you never noticed, but that "insert" supports half the weight of the card when it's plugged into the motherboard. The retaining screw is there to keep from pushing the card out. It doesn't support much weight. So holding it by that doesn't hurt it in any way whatsoever.

Thats an awesome video card! The framerates will be great when playing games [pshades]

I have no problem with ATI, since I have an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro and my framerates are always 60-100 [:)]

I've broken a card before, but it was on purpose [:)] You can damage a card by touching the inserts if you have enough of a static charge in you, but I would imagine it is pretty rare. I touch them all the time without a problem so far.

Yep, that's why you should always ground yourself before handling computer parts. [8D]

Well, SMer wanted to discuss this on AIM, and he said all nvidia products, it says in the manual that you aren't supposed to touch this insert thing. So just to prevent any confusion here, I have a little bit of proof that it doesn't matter:

You wanna tell me again how I don't know what I'm talking about?

First of all, I never said you didn't know what you were talking about, that is so uncool to say that I said that. Second, look at #8. There could be other saftey pre-cautions you might need to do that you didn't see or something. I don't want to annoy you again, I just wanna prove something that I thought was true.

If I had a camera, I'd take a picture to show you where I read that.

Thats all I meant, I didn't specificly say that, but thats what I meant. Some people have full carpeting in their house, which is bad because when you walk on carpet, your feet tend to shuffle, creating static electricity. Thats why I said you shouldn't hold it by the inserts. Sorry if you were mislead.

Actually, go back a page and look at the pics of the "equipment" IE the card. Tell me how many warning stickers there are...
