new worlds steepest water ride idea

I've had the idea for a long time, and thought that i would share it:

it's similar to Drenched at Oakwood, in an oval shape, but has a vertical tilt section. below is how it would work:

1. riders enter the boat and pull down shoulder harnesses.

2. the boat exits the station and climbs the lift hill.

3. at the top, the boat goes down a small drop and around a corner.

4. time for the scary part: the boat goes on to a straight section, then stops. it is locked in place, then the track tilts until it touches the vertical part.

5. it locks on to the vertical section, then water starts flowing down, then the boat is released down the drop. as soon as the boat leaves the tipper section, it starts leveling out, splashing into a lake/pool, and the tipper section unlocks and resets, ready for the next boat.

6. the boat at the bottom exits the slash zone and goes slowly around a corner, then up a small lift hill into the station, and the shoulder harnesses unlock then riders exit the boat.

safety features:

1. usual block system

2. when the tipper section reaches the drop, a sensor detects it and starts the water flow after 5 seconds.

3. when the water reaches the bottom of the drop, a sensor detects it and the boat is released down the drop after 5 seconds.

4. when the boat reaches the bottom of the drop, a sensor detects it and the water stops flowing after 5 seconds, allowing the tipper section to reset.

Will the boat be connected to a track on it's way down the vertical section? I'd be worried about the boat's front end lifting from the hydro-planing effect and a bit of wind without some sort of track system. Also - locking people into a boat around water is scarier than the drop itself. What would happen if the boat flips and people are locked in at the bottom? :o I'm not saying it's a bad idea but safety precautions would need to be heavily considered.

yes, the boats would be connected to the track, like Drenched at Oakwood.

Sounds like a mixture of the Intamin Shoot the chute with Gravity Max. Could be interesting, but I remember Vekoma said not to do another Tilt track due all the complications with the system. So I'm not sure if Intamin would go for such experimental element, let alone on a waterride.

This sounds stupid to be honest. The pitch over is the BEST part of a steep drop. It's where all the negative G comes from. Your idea sounds like an incredible complex and failure prone (Water and moving parts don't mix...) version of a 1st gen Intamin freefall.

Got to love honesty! TylerE does bring up a good point about moving parts and water as well as the complexity of the design.

Instead, what if there was a hold brake from a dive coaster? Best of both worlds? As soon as the boat comes to a stop water will plow up behind and I believe it would be a pretty unique and terrifying experience.

I'm pretty sure that's true. But if the ride goes into a breakdown about every 5 to 10 minutes, it's not going to be a positive experience for a bunch of guests.

My understanding is that a passenger fell out and was hit by the next boat. That ride always looked really dangerous.

I think the problem with a true vertical water ride is getting the water to stay on the slide/chute.

Honestly, while definitely unique, I sense horrible capacity as well as a maintenance nightmare, much like Perilous Plunge. I got to ride PP in its final season. Line was very short, still took over 5 min from load to dispatch. As thrilling as it was, it was not worth the nightmare in the boarding, much like flying is.

That seemed to go a little too fast before hitting a nearly vertical drop. A holding brake like B&M Dive Machine's should have been put there.

^ I often use Windows Paint when I draw my own coaster layouts and add some descriptions. It's got awesome drawing options like letting you do a straight and curved line by clicking and dragging.

Use some program that can utilize bezier curves. It helps A LOT with drawing curves with relative precision, and it works exactly the same as NL1's track building system
