I should hope that grey is primer.

So as per a conference call transcript posted on Screamscape, the floorless conversion is basically confirmed. I'm all for improving older coasters, and if Cedar Fair thinks it's worth the investment I'm not going to second guess them. I do wonder if Carowinds' Vortex will be next...it was surprisingly smooth when I rode it and quite superior to its older sibling.

It would be nice if they gave Vortex its original green track and black support color scheme.

Shockwave at Drayton has a zero-G roll. How is that for those that have done it?

It's not hugely different from a regular sit down Zero G but the lat's do feel more prominent and the overall sensation seems more intense. It's probably my favourite element on the ride (the loop and 2 corkscrews being the others). I'm unsure how others found it but I personally love the standup Zero G

I hope they have plans to announce Vortex's closure/conversion sooner than later. Assuming it takes the same amount of time to convert Vortex as Rougarou did, they'd need to start earlier since Great America opens 1.5 months before Cedar Point.

Is CGA open all year round? If that is the case then the park can get this open in a couple months.

Nope. CGA closes in November like all of the other Cedar Fair parks (minus Knotts Berry Farm), but they should probably switch to year-round operations sometime soon since they are the only major park in California that still has an offseason.

Screamscape is currently rumoring that the Vortex floorless conversion has been pushed back to 2017. Seems like a good move to me because it will be very hard for a floorless Vortex to compete with The Joker at Discovery Kingdom.
2017 - Vortex Floorless Conversion - Rumor - (9/17/15) According to the latest rumor, the proposed plan of converting Vortex into a Floorless coaster has been pushed back until at least 2017 at this point. That???s if it happens at all. It???s one thing to convert Mantis into Rogarou as a modern and much bigger Stand-Up coaster, but Vortex is old and very small by comparison and is hardly worth the effort or cost in my opinion.

Yeah, with The Joker's announcement, Floorless Vortex would be barely a blip in comparison. Too small and old a ride.

I'm hoping Cedar Fair went back to the drawing board for a REAL steel coaster for CGA for 2017.

Well no, they would have pushed back the conversion to 2017, which would be even less impressive. Honestly that's the biggest thing they're going to get, so I'd be annoyed if it didn't happen.
All hail your great Arrow Dynamics overlords.

Yeah, I don't think it's happening at all. Not worth the investment for such a small ride. I think they are perfectly capable of a mid size steel coaster.

Saw this in an article from the L.A. Times about virtual reality at theme parks...
In the coming weeks, Cedar Fair is expected to announce new digital-based attractions at California???s Great America in Santa Clara and Carowinds in Charlotte, N.C.

If this is what they're doing instead of the floorless conversion, then that is even more disappointing in my opinion.

They're not going to put a VR headset on a standup coaster. Idiots get bloody noses on them all the time when they try to look at their friend during the ride. Having that apparatus protruding from your head isn't happening on that ride.

^ Hopefully CGA decided to go with something a bit more substantial for 2016 to compete with the Joker. Otherwise SFDK will be grabbing all of the attention in the bay area next year.
