Hey guys, now I'm sure this has been discussed in the past but, I recently watched a video of Six Flags New Orleans in its current state and thought to myself "will this park EVER have a chance at reopening?" Even though Hurricane Katrina has came and done its damage, rehabilitation is still under works for those who were effected by the devastation. I want to know what your guy's thoughts and opinions are on this... do you think Six Flags will/should ever reopen this park?

I could think of a perfect time for it to open and it would only be seasonal and that would be now, for Halloween. It's all messed up in there and scary looking. I think the stuff there is way too water damaged to be salvaged/fixed. Its cost prohibitive imo.

Maybe they could rebrand it to "666 Flags: it's Feasting Time" if they did that, and have employees in zombie costumes.

Sadly there is no hope that Six Flags New Orleans will ever be restored as a functioning park. The market does not exists to financially support an existing park and no insurance company would ever pay out twice on a property that is basically in a top tier flood plain. Not to mention that the property is now owned by the Ciry of New Orleans who would rather use it as a movie set then attempted to do anything with the property or fixtures.

Several years ago I reached out to the city and recommended that they consider allowing us to review a few rides that we felt were salvageable with some engineering work and a whole lot of replacement parts. The idea being that we would restore these rides to working and safe condition and then relocate them to some place near the Mardi Gras circuit and tourist districts. Specifically these were the Huss Frisbee, Huss Airboat, Vekoma Boomerang, and the Wild Mouse ride. These rides had parts that were galvanized and so exposure to the elements wasn't to big of a problem and with complete electrical refurbishment (combined with general overhaul of components that were simply exposed to the air and not the water) could have been salvaged relatively easily.

Sadly the city felt that they made more money on it as a movie set that is used once every few years then they would be paying to have the rides rebuilt at 1/10th the cost of their value with recurring revenue from operation especially during Mardi Gras. I got the impression based on the few interactions I had with them that they have no clue what to do and don't really care to do anything with it.

I'd much rather see Six Flags Astroworld come back than SFNO.

^Astroworld was leveled, last I checked it was a field without a trace of the former amusement park. Is it an office complex yet? If the Grand Texas Theme Park ever happens, that'll be the closest thing to a replacement.

Yea I know it's gone, I was just saying that I think that it was a better park than SFNO. It sucks that it closed too, especially because of Six Flags' CEO back then and his massive ego.

No three. Batman the Ride at Six Flags Over Texas, Goliath at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and the one I'm guessing you missed Great White at SeaWorld San Antonio
1.Boulder Dash | 2.Legend(HW) | 3.Beast | 4.Ravine Flyer II | 5.Intimdator 305 | 6.Phoenix | 7.Twisted Timbers | 8.Wicked Cyclone | 9.Thunderhead | 10.Storm Chaser

Batman: The Ride at Six Flags Over Texas (Arlington, TX)
Goliath at Six Flags Fiesta Texas (San Antonio, TX)
Great White at Sea World San Antonio (San Antonio, TX)
There are two in San Antonio alone. These are about 20 minutes away from each other, depending on traffic at the time

If we all chip in I bet you we can give Joyland one as well, that way they don't feel left out.
