This weekend, I went to Nickelodeon Universe at the Mall of America to get my offseason coaster fix and had a great time. It was a very crowded day at the park, with many rides having full queues (that's what I get for going on a Saturday during Christmas break), but I was still able to enjoy myself.

It may be the middle of winter in Minnesota...

but that won't stop me from having some fun at Nick Universe.

My first ride was Shredder's Mutant Masher, the park's newest ride.

This was a very good ride. While the arm didn't swing as high as similar rides I've seen/been on, it pulled some decent Gs and had a few airtime pops. Great addition to the park.

Up next was Fairly Odd Coaster.

One of the better family coasters out there in my opinion.

Avatar Airbender is always a blast.

Near the ferris wheel.

SpongeBob was running much smoother yesterday than the last time I rode it.

I was able to flip myself twice on Shell Shock, which is an improvement from last time (0). :)

Never been a fan of this ride.

Despite the large crowds, I had a great day at Nick Universe. Now it's time for me to go back into offseason mode as I likely won't be riding any more coasters until May when Valleyfair opens.

Thanks for reading my trip report!

So is the rumor about new ferris wheel stairs true or are they getting something else in that area?

I assume that the rumor about the stairs is true because the area that they had fenced off is too small to fit any kind of attraction.

what is "Flyover America" going to be?

From my understanding, it's supposed to be a flying motion simulator similar to Soarin' at the Disney parks.

You can read more about it here: http://www.startribune.com/planned-moa- ... 300134141/

Went down to Nick Universe/Mall of America on April 1st since I had the day off, and had a great time. While I was there, I got a chance to ride FlyOver America during the soft opening phase. FlyOver America is basically the mall's version of Disney's Soarin' rides, and I really enjoyed it. Very well done, takes you over lots of nice American landscapes and landmarks, strong background music, and used wind & mist effects to make it more realistic. It costs $17 per person (not included in NU wristband) and I thought it was worth it. Definitely check it out if you're ever at Mall of America.

Arriving at the Mall. :)

Last room before riding, where they show you a very cheesy safety video. ;)

Now for a few pictures of the rest of the park.

Still my favorite ride in the park.

Avatar Airbender.

Flipped myself upside-down four times in a row on TMNT Shell Shock. THAT is a crazy experience. :)

Usually not big on log flumes, but NU's is very good.

Overall, fun day.

I know that Maurer's "Spinning Coaster Maihime" at Tokyo Dome City which is now defunct, due to a fatal accident (http://rcdb.com/1252.htm) had a similar thing.

^^ The ride photo collection with neat descriptions. I learned a lot and now I really like to take in "technical" facts about the Maurer and Zierer rides!

*removed - it went to Weiner Prater. Reading up on the accident really doesn't endear me to visiting Tokyo Dome City - 3 serious accidents in as many months?

Anyways not to derail the topic! Some neat pictures and thanks for the information on Flyover America!
