And here you all are...

Round 2

Image

With many amazing coasters coming to parks near us in 2016 your task is to create Intamin Mulit Launch coaster that twists, turns, and inverts. While the basis of this task seems simple the curveballs are designed to test your limits and push you as a designer. There are many Intamin Multi-Launch coasters to base your design off of however you must follow these guidelines.

Round 2 Guidelines:

Intamin (Taron-esque) Multi-Launch

6000-8000 ft of track

Max height of 100 feet

There must be 3 inversions (none can be the same, example: loop, barrel roll, dive loop)

Must have 2 launches

5 car trains

As always inversions are any area of track with absolute banking equal to or exceeding 155 degrees

Tunnels are allowed

Custom content is allowed (this includes scenery, custom skyboxes, scripts, etc.)

Support style MUST match manufacturer style-cannot stress this enough, accuracy to designer will have a larger weight in
the support category this round

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your first curveball will be given to you tomorrow, April 1st.

Please note that you will be judged on the following:

-How realistic your design is.
-Are your g forces in check?
-Support work
-Track work
-Overall Impression (does your coaster look appropriate for the specified area?, Colors, etc. This is the extra credit points)
-Operations
-It must pass all clearance and block tests.

Again, You are allowed to use custom skyboxes and 3d scenery if you feel fit.

Your judges are:

-Myself, Head judge
-Tristen (actual ride op at SFOT), Operations judge
-Daniel (Metazoanhaddock), Support judge

The submissions must be sent to contests@nolimitscoaster2.com by April 20th at midnight EST. If you do not send in your track by the appropriate time or you disregard the rules and guidelines, you will be automatically disqualified and will no longer be in the running for the grand prize. When submitting please follow this submission guideline.

When you say Taron-esque you're saying you want compact like Maverick or Taron right? Not a meandering Cheetah Hunt?

We'd prefer it to be compact if possible, but it's not required. Keep in mind the curveballs this round will be challenging, and based somewhat on real circumstances. There's a reason behind each of our requirements, it might serve you well to look at them closely.

But when you tell us, what the curveball is about? Perhaps in the evening?

What is the exact definition of a launch? Is it physical track section or the train being launched? For example, Phobia Phear Coaster is going to be a coaster with 1 physical launch section but the train is being launched multiple times in one ride cycle.

Do we have to work with multiple manufacturers again or is it just Intamin this time?

Launches are physical track sections....plus I'm pretty sure logic would indicate that with 6,000-8,000 feet of track and a max height of 100 feet, you wouldn't get far with only 1 launch section, no matter how many passes you did........

It's just intamin, as was clearly specified....

And the length of the track will be again determined by the statistics in the editor?

If so, I have a pretty neat idea for a coaster which uses 2 launch sections with multiple launches. I will be bending some of the guidelines but if the length will be determined by the statistics in the editor, my idea will technically follow every guideline.

Does a Norwegian loop count as two inversions so I would only need to do another inversion?

The answer to your question is directly above. As long as the track banks at or beyond 155 degrees at a given point, it will count as an inversion. Depending on your Norwegian loop shaping, it could count as 0, 1, or 2.

To all contestants:

Please read through the rules in detail; most if not all of your questions will be answered there already, and it saves us judges the headache of answering questions that have already been answered.

ROUND 2 Curveball #1

This round may seem easier and this curveball may not seem like much however the second curveball is the one to look out for. Each and every guideline we state is for a reason, just keep that in mind ;)

Your first curveball is simple. Now that you have the basis of an Intamin multi launch you must now make it terrain based. Thats right... your design must now feature low to the ground sections and near by misses past rock formations, water, trenches, etc. Be creative with this. Just for your understanding we stated for the second round a Intamin Multi launch (taron esque) type coaster, now with this curveball you must incorporate terrain (think that similar to Cheetah hunt).

NOTE: THERE MUST BE AT LEAST 5 NOTICEABLE TERRAIN BASED SECTIONS. Whether its a trench, flying past rock formations, or just extremely low to the terrain, it is up to you, the designer. You can use the same terrain based section more than once.

We are very excited to see what you all can come up with!

The second curveball will be released April 10th.

Good luck!

Lol to make it spread out like Cheetah Hunt with tons of terrain or to Taron it into a smooshed area....

I have a question about one rule: Max height 100ft is from the ground? or total height of the coaster... Can we build underground within a reasonable limit?

Who knows how these things works. :?: It is located just after each Intamin LSM Launch. I guess it's constant magnetic brakes which go out when the train is passed. A bit something like the brakes on an Intamin Hydraulic Launch. Am I right or not? :D
