AGAWAM ??? A cable on the Goliath roller coaster malfunctioned on Monday, prompting Six Flags New England officials to close the ride indefinitely.

"Earlier today, there was a minor malfunction with a cable on one of our rides," Jennifer McGrath, a spokeswoman for the Agawam amusement park, told The Republican in an email late Monday afternoon.

The ride, which wasn't in operation at the time, will remain closed until the part that malfunctioned is replaced and a full safety inspection is conducted, according to McGrath.

"Note, at this time we do not have a definitive date on when the attraction will reopen," she said.

Six Flags describes Goliath as "a Giant Inverted Boomerang" that reaches a maximum elevation of 191 feet and a max speed of around 65 mph, according to the park's website.

How can a cable have a minor malfunction? Either it snaps or it doesn't.
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

The earlier GIBs (I have no idea how the Chinese ones are doing) were definitely designed with a touch of Intamin drugs, but they're still fun as hell. Here's to hoping it's fixed soon.

The V seating was dumb as hell though. GP too stupid for the concept, much like standup coasters.

Deja Vu was a great ride! Did it have awful pph? Yes. But it was still a fun ride. Green lathern takes up such little space I don't worry about it. It's better that a carnival looper lol.

A cable snap is not a small issue lol.

Goliath was fun as hell in its opening year when it had the original trains with the V design. The new Premier trains make the ride so rough and uncomfortable and pretty much ruined how good it was in 2012.

Ohhhh I forgot about the new trains. IDK why Premier seems to be the world leader in bad custom trains.

It seems like every year SFNE has a new problem with this ride, which is a little surprising given that it ran reasonably well at SFMM. If most of the problems are primarily due to the Premier train, the park should probably just buy a new train from Vekoma so they can operate the ride reliably. If it's something else, I really wonder how long SFNE will keep the ride. I never thought it could potentially get removed before their 30+ year old boomerang.
