Boulder Dash question...

I've just watched a short vid here - http://www.lakecompounce.com/boulderdash.html of the mountain coaster 'Boulder Dash' I noticed that, in several places along the track there were wooden sections (between the rails) at the base of some hills and also on some crests. Am I right in thinking these are 'trim brakes' and not just boarded sections ?

I just watched it and I didn't see any trims on those boards. They are probably put there so that the inspectors can cross over to the other side a bit safer

There are also boards like this at the end of The Legend at Holiday World. These wood boards serve no purpose but to provide further stability in the extremely tight and twisted track near the end. BTW, does this mean you are recreating Boulder Dash? That would be awesome!

OK, so does a trim brake lie in the center, the left or right? can anyone link me to some pics plz - I want to use trims but have never seen one!

If I could get some pics of the layout I would give it a try... but only seeing a short clip and living in the UK, my recreation would resemble a lumber yard thats been thrown randomly over a hillside and then bombed!!!

Ok, i remember now.

Look at the catwalks. They use it when one side has no catwalk, and then it switches over. So say you are going along, no catwalk on the right but theres one on the left. And then the catwalk switches from being on the left to the right, when it switches they put that there so when they do their walk throughs they can safely walk from one side of the track to the other.


I used to think it had alot to do with banking, which, normally it would since extreme banking or banking on hills will lead to a catwalk on just one side, but, thanks to Boulderdash they use alternating catwalks on straight sections because of the rocks or trees or other natural stuff.


So in short, they use it when the catwalks switch sides.

Yeah thats what I thought too. You will also see those boards quite often on hills and on the crests of hills so that the inspectors can get right down in the track safer to inspect the running boards on the steep inclines
