I'm predicting the RMC will be themed around old rides coming back to haunt the park. In particular I think they will bring back the standup and Disaster Transport. Together they will form Mantis Tobboggan MD. It has your test results. They're positive YA GOT THE HIV YEAH AIDS BIG TIME!
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

Can't wait to see all of the "BUT I LOVE THIS RIDE" idiots who rode it 0.25 times a year for a decade before this announcement to crawl around.

Jump Track. They're just taking out sections of the track and not replacing it.

At least this has no danger of being sent to Valleyfair.

September 16th is a Friday Haunt night, seems like an unusual day to close the ride, but I'm sure they've got their reasons.

Anyway, no big loss for Cedar Point, Mean Streak was a boring ride that never had a line. Want to say it's getting RMC'd, but I dunno, the other wooden coasters that were RMC'd closed about a month or two earlier. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

They'll probably start cross-training that entire crew on other rides if they already haven't and disperse them elsewhere for staffing reasons. That park takes a huge staffing hit around early-mid August when the universities kick back into gear.

I got bets on RMC. If it was being replaced, it would have been closed by now.

I think it'll be an RMC for 2018 and they'll do preparatory stuff involving moving entrances, redoing parts of the train tracks, laying utilities, building/upgrading shops, widening/repouring paths, and general stuff during the offseason with the addition of a flat ride or a waterpark expansion or something. If Intamin built a woodie there instead like T Express, which I'd rather see, when the ride goes into "Balder mode" they could expand the waterpark into the smaller area and have a much better coaster to go with it. Mean Streak as-is could an entire ride in the middle of itself.

On the other side of the coin, anything is possible. RMC got Goliath completely built from the ground up during a particularly nasty winter in Chicago, but that ride is so short for how big it is.

Twisted Colossus has 5,000 ft of track and it took them from August 16, 2014 to May 23, 2015. MS's renovation would be about a month shorter than that, but they could still crank out a 5,000 ft track on her structure in that time frame I have no doubt. Tallest fastest longest steepest most purple hybrid coaster in the world, just saying. CP's gotta keep the gimmicky records.

Source?

This is very civil engineer-ish of you:
1. Doesn't factor in weather
2. Doesn't factor in accidentally lighting the ride on fire and then having to rebuild that portion like at SFMM
3. Doesn't factor in painting time

MS's renovation would be about a month shorter than that assuming they close it September 16th and open it mid-May 2017. If that is the scenario that happens. I am not a civil engineer. If they don't light mean streak on fire, then the 1 month shorter time frame for its renovation for 2017 compared to Twisted Colossus's is even more realistic.

Well, I think that video puts any fears that Mean Streak will simply receive a GCI retrack to rest. I've got two guesses as to what is going to happen:

1. Mean Streak receives a RMC I-Box transformation. If Cedar Fair ever intends to work with RMC, I think this is the most likely option. Will it be 2017 or 2018? I think it's too early to tell. If the ride ends up being significantly reduced in length (say the RMC is about 2/3 of the current length), 2017 is definitely possible. If the length will be maintained, 2017 may be possible if it is RMC's only project for that year, but otherwise I think 2018 is more likely (especially with recent rumors that they may be fabricating up to four S&S Free Spins...they're definitely making at least two).

2. Mean Streak is completely demolished and a whole new themed area is put back here in 2018. Mean Streak occupies so much space that at least two smaller attractions could replace it. I could see a major Frontiertown expansion back here with a smaller coaster (perhaps a GCI woodie), a Triotech dark ride, and a couple of flat rides. Of course, the entire site could be used by another giant coaster, but given that Cedar Fair seems to like building big coasters near entrances and they just got a big coaster this year I doubt they'll get another big coaster by 2018 unless it is a RMC transformation.

Either way, I'm curious what will happen. Perhaps we'll know more on September 16th.

I will say the one thing Cedar Point misses is a woodie along the likes of a GCI. Blue Streak is an entirely different class of woodies. An RMC would be absolutely high-thrilling. I'd be OK with a GCI and rethemed area or an RMC Mean Streak. I'd just like to see that POS finally rid of.
Oh, were you expecting something here?

They have enough family rides. The world doesn't need another GCI that delusional enthusiasts call a family coaster that isn't intended to be one.

I'm not sure what RMC could really do with Mean Streak. The layout is just sort of pointless and dumb.

The question is what can't they do? Taking pointless and dumb layout and making them world-class rides is kind of their thing.

RMC is really good at making meandering parts on a previous woodie (I mean, one before being RMCed.) into bunny "twisted" hops!

Texas Giant looked like it actually was a somewhat decent ride, whereas Mean Streak I still can't fathom having air lol
