Introduction

Hey everyone, I apologize for creating a new thread so soon after Escape From Tomorrow, but I feel this coaster is progressing enough to warrant a thread. Some of you may have seen either in the WDYJDINL thread or on Facebook that I've started creating a Twilight Zone themed coaster. The ride itself is a Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster II, inspired by Taron, Karnan, Revenge of the Mummy and Escape from Gringotts.

Layout

Theme

As I mentioned above, the coaster will carry a Twilight Zone theme. Picture the Tower of Terror, but instead of a hotel theme, I've chosen to go with an underground subway/metro railway theme. The ride will follow very similar beats to the Tower of Terror, including two preshows eerily reminiscent of the "wave goodbye" and "hallway" Tower of Terror sequences, but adapted to the subway theme accordingly.
Ride Vehicles

Riders will be seated in an old track inspection vehicle, as seen below.

Image
Image

The vehicles were inspired by this 1930's track inspection vehicle:

Image

Current Progress

The station, as you can see below, is very much inspired by the Hollywood Tower Hotel, but also takes a lot of architectural cues from the Moscow metro system.

Image

Image

I've also been working on the departure from the station, where trains will hold before starting the actual ride (a system seen in Escape From Gringotts and Revenge of the Mummy). As you enter that black void in the background, stars will appear around you and the "You are the passengers on a most uncommon train blah blah blah" audio will begin, similar to the opening of Tower of Terror.

Image

Image

What you see here is another station, and although you wouldn't know it yet, it's currently abandoned. Construction began years ago to try and refurbish the aging station platform, but the site has since been deserted, and the Hollywood South stop is no longer in operation. Don't worry, scaffolding and other construction-like details are soon to be added. There's a couple of surprises I have planned for this room that I'm not planning on showing until release, so stay tuned, I'm pretty excited to see what you guys think about them!

Image

Last but not least, I've created the first preshow room. This will replace the "mirror" scene from Tower of Terror, where you "wave goodbye to the real world" and enter the Twilight Zone. Now you might be asking yourself, "What is this room?". To put it simply, I took some liberties. This room is where I imagine all things underground meet up, from the sewers, to the subway, to electrical lines. I doubt rooms like this actually exist, but I think it turned out pretty well.

Ideally, steam will pour out from the sewer grate, and an image of the train will be projected onto it and promptly destroyed as you wave goodbye, and move onto the next preshow, before launching into the arena.

Image

Image

Not pictured, I've also started adding details to the station, such as hats, paper scraps, cracks, and forgotten luggage.

Conclusion

So what do you think of the ride so far? There's still a lot of work to be done on almost everything I've shown you, I don't think anything is finalized yet. Throw your criticism my way!

Holy crap man, this looks really amazing so far. I love your direction with the theme and the cars.

Unfortunately, I don't have much actual criticism to give without seeing some close up track work.

Woah this is phenomenal! The amount of work and detailing gone into this is superb. I can't wait to see more of it!

Track shaping looks really fun! Like the detailing work and it's always nice to see a bit of research going into ride design with the trains!

Wow, thanks for the feedback, guys!

Here's a quick update, a video preview of the 2nd preshow!

As you can see, it's HEAVILY inspired by Tower of Terror's "Hallway scene". I put in the corresponding audio from T.o.T. to help give you all a better idea of what the final product will look/sound like. Obviously, when everything is done there will be no mention of elevators, but rather subway trains. Also, big ups to TheCodeMaster for achieving the fading effect on the scenery.

Unfortunately, things will definitely be slowing down, as I've just started my second year of college. It's the end of Day 2 and Calc 3 already has me in a chokehold. As always, please let me know what you guys think of the current progress! I appreciate any and all feedback, but negative and positive.

That looks really good! The only minor nitpick I have is that it feels like it should have something just before the launch. About 15 seconds before it launches, you see the hologram that launches. I think it would be better if the hologram stayed the same until just before the launch... Although this is still one of the coolest things I've seen in NL2! :D

I really appreciate all of your feedback, guys! @herman116, I like your idea quite a bit, because the real Towers of Terror do this effect, but I'm finding it difficult to keep the timing of the audio with the animation. I'll keep you guys posted with that.

Meanwhile, making some more progress, slowly but surely. What you see here is the main ride area. The fog that you see is NL2's stock volumetric fog, refelecting a purple light.

I've added the eyeball from the show's opening title screen, and a flashing train signal:

Ideally I'd like props to mix the Twilight Zone with the real world (subway).

Looks like this is coming along really nicely. looking forward to seeing more stuff about this project. The video was definitely jaw dropping as turbo said, as I had to go back and watch it again to see what you were talking about with the scenery. Well done so far my friend and keep up the good work

I really like how you're even making a pretty realistic building with those roof supports. Al the theming is also still looking great! :)

Awesome ride, but um, the correct term would be refracting.

Thanks guys! @Dev-Con, damn! I had typed out refracting, then erased it for reflecting. I always get the two mixed up. But speaking of refracting, scenery on the interior is slowly but surely coming to an end.

And as a little bit of a preview for the next update, here's this video still:

See you all soon!

Wow such a small mistake never mars your building and theming quality! :D

Kickstarter For Mark Silverman

Hey everyone, as a few people have posted above, I thought it'd be a good idea to reach out to Twilight Zone voice actor Mark Silverman to do voice work for Terror Tracks. So, we talked for a while, and he said he'd love to be a part of it! The only problem is that his price is pretty steep...much more money than I have available to me to spend on a NoLimits project.

The way I see it, it's easier to ask 1,000 people for $1 than one person for $1,000.

In an effort to remedy this problem, I've resorted to you guys, my friends and fans of Tower of Terror. My Kickstarter project to raise funds to hire Mark Silverman as a voice actor for Terror Tracks has officially opened! I HIGHLY encourage you to check out the Kickstarter page, located here:

LINK TO KICKSTARTER:

However, since I know some of you guys are a bit lazy, here are the reward tiers available to you:

NOTE: While we do want to create incentives for everyone to donate, it should be noted that if you purchase any of the rewards below, the vast majority of your "donation" will be going towards creating your reward, rather than towards our project. If you would like to pay for a reward AS WELL AS donate to the project, we recommend adding your desired donation amount to the price of the reward tier.

1) One (1) digital print of the Remembering Tower of Terror poster. A preview is available below. ($3 USD)
2) Lucky Number 11, for only the most unfortunate of backers. ($11 USD) NOTE: LIMIT 1 BACKER
3) One (1) 18x24" physical print of the Remembering Tower of Terror poster. A preview is available below. ($20 USD)
4) One (1) high quality, custom Hollywood Tower Hotel (black or white) design printed on an American Apparel Fine Jersey Short Sleeve T-Shirt. Sizes available are S,M,L,XL. A preview is available below. ($30 USD)

Thank You

Whether you've made the decision to donate or not, I want to thank everyone who has even made it this far into the description. Regardless of whether your support is financial or emotional, we appreciate it! Projects like this aren't possible without the guidance and backing of friends and family.

Thank you.

The picture of the walls that are glossy with blue light, is that bump mapping with specular and normal mapping?
