coaster height in 2010

It's the year 2010, what do you think the height record will be in 2010?

im gonna say 451-475ft

i say TTD becuase soon, i think companies will go for originality, not sheer speed and hieght.

I say what pacoasterrider said because someone will come out with a record height coster to just beat the record. Mabye also to be fast. "With records comes more attempts at trying to break the records". This is my opinion.

It's sad these days. Most parks now just want to build a coaster just to set a record. And usually those coasters suck. It's a shame parks don't build as much quality rides anymore.

Think about it yeah, in the last 10 years we have gone from 125ft all the way up to 420 ft, thats quite a fast rate of growth considering the height of coasters had gone up by about 40 ft in the 60 years before 1993. So clearly by 2010, we will have coasters getting in to the heights of 1000ft (possibly) but i would say that we would certainly be around that height.

cough, ermm the record height in 1994 was 213ft (PMBO) not 125ft. The 125ft record was set in 1978 when Gemini opened at Cedar Point

I agree with Shorty. I think that most people will get bored of coasters that are very tall and fast quickly, since they are only fun the first couple times you ride them (to me, tall and fast coasters are never a great thrill any time I ride them). Parks will start to design more woodies since eventually people will realize that big steel coasters usually get boring after you ride them a few times.

I don't think they will be any more that 650 ft tall. Just becuase I doubt the parks can continue to dish out such a great deal of money for coasters. 25$ Million for a realativly short ride 26 seconds, but has a quick thrill, just seems almost not as worth it. I beleive more emphasis will be placed on more creative world records not gearing as much as tallest and fastest.

IMO the only coasters that are going to be the records will be ones like TTD.

actually, according to screamscape.com, the rumor is that 1) blackpool is getting an intamin rocket coaster in 2006 and the other is that an english park ( not specified) is getting a coaster taller than dragster in 2006. but they are only rumors at this time. however, screamscape has had a very high success rate with their rumors.

the tallest coasters always go in intervals of 100. I believe that by 2010, there will be an economic limit that appears, so maybe one very rich park will be able to build a 500 ft coaster, and then it will be a long time before that record is broken. I'll bet that the 500 ft coaster will be at Cedar Point, though. They've broken every height barrier from 200 to 400, so they will want to defend their title.

i do know that while on my stay a cedar point, i met some locals who went every weekend, they said that since they go so often that they know some of the staff and the staff said that there is going to be another new something this year, unspecified but they said it was big

Actually, this year Cedar Point is opening a new indoor waterpark in their hotel complex. They are also, however, working on adding more land to the penninsula so that they can begin to build more attractions in the future. they also purchased the marina, and are expanding the facilities outside of the main park. No new coasters this year, though. At least not until 2005.

I see the height mabye getting a few feet taller with one more record breaker from another park, but TTD will probably be gone by 2010, as it jsut gets so boring so fast for most people.

Just as a side note, Gemini never held any record, except tallest racer, as teh Blue Streak@somewherein upstate NY had a 135 foot structure at the far end, with a 140 foot ravine drop, to my knowledge...But I could be wrong.

I think that as long as there are amusement parks and rollercoasters they will always try to break records...but a coaster with extreme height (taller than ttd) could that be possible?

easily, what prevents a coaster from going so high? Nothing, it just costs a lot more money for a park to build them very very high.

yeah, but air gets thin up there, so i only see it goin a few feet taller than TTD like Steel Dragon, and MF.And then makin a huge jump to 500 feet than no one will break that(hopefully)cause i want more quality and compactness(if thats a word)in a coaster than just breaking records to be known.Because if you think about it if a park builds a great ride, wont alot of people come to ride it because of how good it is, instead of now which is that people come to go on a coaster just to say then went on a coaster thats over 400ft. tall?i would rather go on a good coaster, than a record breaking one.IMO

Air starts getting thin at thousands of feet high, you can go much higher than TTD [;)]

I completely agree with you also eZe, IMO the best coasters in the worls are all under 100ft. tall.

Yep the thin air thing is BS at these relatively low altitudes. There's a couple of probs however (as told by Intamin and as I've found out):

• Bearings and wheels need to get bigger each time because of frictional heat melting them away otherwise
• The layout needs to be much bigger as to not kill the riders with G's
• R&D costs and construction costs go skyhigh

And IMO, big coasters are fun but then they HAVE to be perfectly designed as head-choppers and high verts ar much less common.
