They don't really have a way to do it otherwise unless they remove the train from the track entirely and this will allow for maintenance on most parts effortlessly.
If anything it's a smart design provided the weight of the train is supported lol
After hearing about the maintenance challenges Helix faces on the Coastercrazy Liseberg trip I'd certainly buy into this theory as opposed to the expandable storage idea. Easy access to the wheels to change them efficiently is a big bonus for the maintenance teams.
