Well what the hell else would they announce? It's too late to capitalize on a season pass rush and the thing was built in that spot for like a month prior.

The article that mentions it's going to be for 2018 has that "vibe" like it's written by someone who wouldn't know for sure. I keep going back and forth on this subject, though. Yes, 16 more months of construction is preposterous, even when you know for an absolute fact something will go wrong (cough*RMC). But if it was for 2017 or mid/late 2017, they lost a lot of marketing momentum by now; i.e. not posting the layout, animations, new elements, any records broken. I know CP in general likes to be sneaky but that doesn't add up.

There's something I'm missing. Some reason for such a long construction period. Maybe some kind of overhauling with the new waterpark stuff like Ckidmwm ^ mentioned. Oh well, I'm confused but excited to see more layout.

Yes RMC is experienced with this but Mean Streak is a MASSIVE ride. Truth be told I'm keeping my fingers crossed for cedar fair to actually put some kind of theming to it and keep it consistent throughout the ride. But we also cannot forget that given Ripcord is being relocated, the new waterpark is being a thing, and the massive updates needed to that section of the parks infrastructure to support such a ride (which by the way we are still assuming that they are going strictly along Mean Streak's previous layout and not branching out at all).

Or my other hypothesis is this is all some elaborate joke and the rails we saw were legitimately for a new park wide railroad.

Is it bad if I'm part of a betting pool that segmented parts of the station and transfer track for areas where a fire could break out?

Lightning Rod has been smoking and photographed doing so at least twice

Yes and the issues beyond just the fires. I mean I love RMC, but they sure have had some excitingly rotten luck.

I think its a safe prediction that won't happen. lol

I don't think massive is the best word. Remember all the infrastructure Mean Streak needed is still there. While that was over 25 years ago Mean streak was probably a bigger deal than this will be. Of course they would need to update everything but its not like they have to start from scratch.

Given that there's not really anywhere to branch out too, its more of an educated guess

I think by branching out they mean changing up the layout, which will most likely happen. Honestly the original layout is pretty bland even if they just followed it ala NTG

Hmmm interesting mention. I never thought about the possibility of branching out into other areas or different from the footprint. If they really are adding about 40 feet of height onto the first drop, we could be looking at a stretch.

I think you might be surprised at what they could do with a little street / path alteration. If they were to drag a section out by Gemini, that would make the park's skyline look sweet.

I meant branch out of the bowl. And adding 40ft to the ride might just barely make it possible for the train to reach the end following the original layout. They still have heavy friction issues

Hmm you might be undermining the difference between 160 feet and 200 feet, even with RMC's friction issues. And there's no way they're going to follow the Mean Streak layout like NTG to Texas Giant. I just can't see it happening.

The difference between 160 and 200 feet is only around 10 MPH extra. Most 160 foot rides peak at around 65 mph whereas 200 foot rides peak at 75. Given how drawn out MS was; they should be able to fit it no problem.
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

The "original" Mean Streak had a couple of decent drops. I had hoped like the reborn version would follow those (iconic) elements.

Mean Streak spent the last half of the layout 50ft in the air, so maybe it's doable if the final brakes are lowered considerably.

I don't know why you're disappointed by this. RMC seems to do better the more they're restricted; and whenever someone gives them free reign of a big open area they make tracks that just kind of wander around aimlessly doing strange things. It's like their coasters have Alzheimer's.

There is PLENTY of space to put a 200 foot drop followed by some sort of turnaround in the footprint they have; especially given that both the lift and drop of MS were WAY less steep than what RMC builds.

I mean look at this:

Image

That's only around a 50 degree drop; and the crest and valleys are humongous. If someone built it taller and increased the incline to 80 they could fit in a forceful drop easily. Not to mention how drawn out the first turn is.
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

THAT is my absolute favorite picture of Mean Streak. It was in one of the coaster books I had as a tot. It makes him look so good. I know RMC will do wonderful things, but for a moment I liked the idea of the layout stretching out. I'm getting ahead of myself though. I wish the layout would just be released.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the queue line. From the most recent pics it appears they haven't cleared out any of the current poop that's there. I honestly really hope they bring back that blue tarp covering. For some reason I've always liked how it looked.

All Cedar Fair queue lines involve random covered squares or triangles.

People are saying thy see a zero G stall, I don't lol. Image is pretty blurry. Interesting to see that they axed that whole portion of the structure. It'll really open up the area.
