It seems the only time you're upside down is if the train is going down at or around a 90 degree angle. You're either laying on your stomach or on your back throughout the ride, and in any type of loop or corkscrew.

So are you counting inversions when the track is inverted or when you're upside down?

For me it's when I'm upside down

I.E. Tatsu only has one inversion (Pretzel Loop)
Ok but how desperate you have to be to voluntarily fly from another country to go to Thorpe?

There's an inline twist on Tatsu from the pictures (never been on any flyer). That's not an inversion? I think I'll truly understand how to count them if that isn't an inversion. Thanks.

depending on rider orientation I would consider anything vertically opposite to be an inversion. If we take tatsu as an example I would count the first two rolls, the bottom of the pretzel loop and the third roll totaling up to 4 inversions.

But that's me.

I personally count them when my entire body is inverted. So the dive into a pretzel loop, the 2nd half of a vertical loop, etc. Rolls are technically TRACK inversions, but I don't count them as rider inversions.

You see, when you dive towards the ground in a Flyer's pretzel loop, you are actually inverted, as opposed to the track being inverted and you lying down. Same principle applies to dive loops, but not immelmans, and only one side of a vertical loop.

Sure however on a flying coaster these elements are hard to count which is why I'm saying in relation to rider orientation the opposite would have that effect. The ride itself is inverting however the time spent upside down is different.

I always take a look at the "special" elements, to imagine how they give the train those twists. Too simple? :)

I've always broken them out into: Inversions, and rotations.

Inversions would be more than 270 degrees rotation: the roll overs/corkscrews found on Tatsu and Manta, and even the pretzel loop (but only as one inversion)

rotations would be a lie to fly, or a fly to lie rotation, under 270 rotation: the fly to lie on Air
