This is sketch news at best right now. Fuji Q's facebook supposedly announced this but I cannot find where so consider this a terrible rumor until then:

9 / 14-10 / 2 Dodonpa night to campaign Dodonpa to business pause , the remaining 20 days ! ! 2001 December 21 , 172km / h the world's fastest coaster that reaches ( currently Japan fastest) in just 1.8 seconds from the start has emerged as " Dodonpa " receives a pounding and feeling that cheer up of more than 7.5 million people to oneself , Fujikyu 4 as a large coaster , I would have hated when loved by everyone . Dodonpa , because the reborn and renewed the course layout in July next year , now that I am allowed to rest for a while . To everyone that not stop love Dodonpa , with feeling of appreciation of 15 years , will be held from " Good night Dodonpa campaign " September 14 (Wednesday ) . For more information about events ,

Google translate didn't do well on that one lol. Think S&S is redoing it?

Hopefully. I always hoped they'd give the whole thrust air launch thing another try. That launch on Dodonpa must be intense.

i would have thought so, considering that it's the worlds fastest accelerating roller coaster!

If you would follow that google translate. It sounds like it get's a new and better(?) layout. Would be awesome, as long it'll keep the insane launch. I'm fine with it. :)

They're probably going to have to neuter the launch if they want to fix the ride...
All hail your great Arrow Dynamics overlords.

Always wanted to ride this because of the crazy launch, a New layout would be quite cool!! was lucky enough to ride XLC and it was quite the exciting ride., can't imagine going 27 mph quicker in the same amount of time.

This news literally wows me! They would make that S&S Air Launch into a next gen "Sky Rocket 2-like" style, keeping its launch speed. They might also consider bringing the Moonsault Scramble layout back, because that uber-extreme "6.2" g-force torture machine was actually standing, before Dodonpa came there.

Wishing for an earth-shaking thrill! :)

Well, there is finally a picture on RCDB about the current state of Dodonpa:

Looks like the entire top hat is currently gone. I really wonder what exactly is going to happen. I've heard a bunch of rumors of a layout chance and making the coaster more awesome. So this is going to be very interesting.

But the tophat looked like the best part since it was so horribly designed! Nooooooo. Thanks for the picture Dirk

Oh sad. Are they gonna dampen the RCT1 transitions? Intriguing decision...

Instead of that top hat, they may put a vertical loop to make the ride more exciting. Not that I'm trying to be a real GP or an annoying person who claims like "A VERTICAL LOOP PLEASE! GRANTED!" though. xD

Interesting report from screamscape

2017 - Dodonpa Loop - (2/24/17) S&S Worldwide released a list of 17 new rides they will be opening in 2017 the other day, included was a mention of Dodonpa at Fuji-Q Highland in Japan... but this time they called it Dodonpa Loop and listed it as a ride enhancement. We know Dodonpa closed last year for an unknown major renovation, and I had just seen a report claiming that the coaster's giant hill had all but been removed. So I asked S&S for some extra information about what was going on and was told that Dodonpa's crazy hill was being replaced by a giant vertical loop inversion for the 2017 season. Unfortunately they didn't have any concept art or photos, but at least we know what is going on.

Do you think they're going for the world's largest inversion? Fuji Q likes to break records.

I'm wondering if they'll go the non-inverting loop route since those have suddenly become trendy like a decade after Rip Ride Rockit did it.

Yea decision sucks. I love the look of that airhill.. If the loop is inverting and has a huge amount of hangtime it could be fun,I personally still love airhills more than loops though. Too bad.

There is an upside however, apparently the ride will be launching even faster.

I'm calling doubt on increasing the launch speed unless some sorta brakes are used before the rest of the track.
Oh, were you expecting something here?
