Hey Guys, I'm looking for a free 3D modeling programm for custom scenery in NL2 that exports to .3ds, because I don't want to buy SketchUp Pro Any tips? I like SketchUp so something similar (not too complicated!) would be perfect!
Anything in the Autodesk suite is rather good, intuitive to use, and free. Sketchup is costly and the free version is rather limited, so i wouldn't necessarily use that unless you can pay out of pocket. blender is good and free, but has a rather steep learning curve. Mikey's suggestion is also a good one. hope this helps.

While it's nice you contributed, you didn't actually answer his question. He asked about 3d modeling programs, not how to make in-game scenery using supports. Please stay on topic next time.

I use a mix of blender and gimp, plus solidworks to model anything mechanical. the first two are free and the last one is very much not. It's really up to you to find programs you like and optimise your workflow; everyone works in different ways and prefers using different methods.
