News out of Atlanta, Georgia today as Six Flags over Georgia along with FOX 5 Atlanta announced that the Georgia Cyclone will close down forever and will give it's last ride later this month, July 30th.

Since it first opened in 1990, Georgia Cyclone has become an iconic part of Six Flags Over Georgia. But in just two weeks, the wooden rollercoaster will take its final ride.

Six Flags Over Georgia announced exclusively to Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken that the park will retire Georgia Cyclone at the end of July. Georgia Cyclone opened 27 years ago, with a design based on the legendary coaster of the same name at Coney Island. Georgia Cyclone is a wooden coaster with nearly 3,000 feet of track, reaching top speeds of around 50 miles per hour.

Paul spent the morning at Six Flags Over Georgia, getting details on why the park is closing the ride and how fans can take advantage of its final two weeks of operation.

Personally, I know that Georgia wasn't on the RMC project map (or at least it wasn't when a friend of mine was at the plant) so if it's not RMC ill be surprised who does a refurb.

Or maybe it is RMC and they're secretive like that.

SFOG is my favorite Six Flags and the only thing it lacks (Well, not the only thing. They would be wise to retire the whole staff and replace them too!) is a true standout coaster from RMC or Intamin. The other top SF parks all have one or both. I assumed the chain was done with RMC conversions, but I'll tentatively hope for at least one more.

Son of a bitch. I hope they replace it with something good, because I loved this coaster.

Yes, it was extremely rough, and yes it could potentially give you a migraine and back problems for the rest of the day, but it was a good ride. This better be something really good.

I'm confused. Different sources are saying different things. What is the LAST DAY that the cyclone can be ridden? Is it the 29th or the 30th?

I'm actually quite sad about this one. It was very fun when I rode it a few years ago.

I planned a Deep South trip for this summer about a month ago, and on the trip I'll be making my first visit to Six Flags Over Georgia. Coincidentally, that visit will be happening on July 30th, so it looks like I'll be just in time to ride Georgia Cyclone before it closes. I'm very curious to see what happens next...I'm expecting RMC, but possibly not in the same way as previous RMCs.

I rode on the very last train yesterday. It was actually quite sad. I don't know how, but it seemed like it was running much better than normal, which only made me want to ride more. I'm definitely going to miss this one.

I'm gonna miss it too. I wish they could have just retracked it a bit and kept it running.

Rode it about a week ago, I don't get why they closed it. Was pretty smooth, fun and had a decent amount of people in line.

I'm afraid that this is only hinting towards a water park expansion. I really hope not, but I am nearly positive that is what this is. Unless Six Flags is actually going to do both, I can assume this means no RMC cyclone for next year.

When I was at SFOG yesterday, the first thing I did was check to see what was going on over at the Cyclone. A bit of track right before the lift and some wood under the second and fourth turns was removed so they could bring in this crane.

They've also removed the trains and some of the drive tires.

The park train had just started moving so I was trying to get the picture quickly.

I hope this gets RMC'd and not just torn down for a silly waterpark expansion. This ride was very fun and good the last time I rode it and I'm still sad about it closing.

Somebody said on a CoasterNet video that they could be posting these videos themed to the last five things they've added. Hurricane harbor, then Joker Chaos (not a) Coaster, and now in this teaser, Rage of the Gargoyles added to Dare Devil Dive in 2015. So if there is another teaser before Thursday, it would probably be something that has to do with the Justice League. In every one of the teasers so far, they have had something that has to do with the cyclone, so I still think RMC is possible.

If it's RMC I hope they don't paint it that terrible grey color like Wicked Cyclone lol. The white looks nice, especially on Iron Colossus.

I understand the grey fits the theme, but I agree. It does look terrible.

I like the grey a lot. I think a grey support yellow IBox box would look amazing!

Phantaisaland, please get a grey support black track RMC.
