If I recall it was loosely themed to Japan?

There's going to be a Japanese garden or something, so by Blackpool's standards it's themed to Japan.

What IS Icon's theme?

Well it seems we now know.

The train is supposed to look like a snake/serpent and the ride is themed to a serpent named Icon that has "been released from the depths of the Earth by a giant sword after a tidal wave hit the land of Blackpool."

This comes from someone close with the park so it's probably true.

That still looks so slow. I really hope the speed is going up some more, not that it ends up as Star Trek or anything.

Here's a great video of Icon from the Pleasure Beach Express:

Also, if you look closely into the maintenance bay at 0:41, you will see a glimpse of the zero car for Icon. Which looks the same as the one used on Helix at Liseberg.

This fitting here is spectacular. It might ruin the Steeplechase view a bit, but wow Blackpool is one of a kind, and holy cow can you get some pretty awesome coaster views here, those pathways and supports are crazy! Imagine all the nets and other crap that a US park would put all over this track.
Only at Blackpool..

No, it actually looks the polar opposite of 'incredible'. Damn that thing is ugly.
Ok but how desperate you have to be to voluntarily fly from another country to go to Thorpe?

You do realise that it is exactly the same as Helix's zero car, just gold instead of green? ;)

Yeah, and it looks f*ck-off bad in gold snakeskin.
