Today a fire has broken out from the Piraten in Batavia ride at Europa Park. The entire Norway section has burned down and part of the Scandinavia as well. As of now the fire is still spreading and is not under control.

Thankfully no one got hurt or killed. Bravo to the park for that.

According to the fire brigade the fire was brought under control around 9pm local time. Journalists are currently allowed to take a look in the dutch area of the park.

I feel so bad for the Mack family. All their hard work and efforts for over 30 years burnt down in a few hours...

They have insurance and nobody died or got injured. They'll be fine.

It sadly made me think of (I'm so sorry...) a Phantasialand Fire in 2001 as well - not good at all...

If you want a scale of how quickly the fire spread, in this video, at 0:28, you can see a bit of smoke coming out the building. By the time the camera completes a full 360, it's turned into a full on blaze:

Also, here's a good video from the monorail showing the devastation:

To be fair that video is probably more along the lines of "this is how fast the roof in the already burning building collapsed" but yeah. I'm surprised they didn't have sprinklers.

I recall reading somewhere that the fire probably started in a storage shed of the Scandinavian area. Sprinkles can only do so much. If an entire roof is already in full blaze in a matter of minutes due a different source, sprinkles wont really help anymore.

Here's a picture of the aftermath:

Sucks to see such a ride being burned down. But I'm still baffled about that luckily nobody got hurt. Park was open and fully operational. So this definitely shows good evacuation plans work.

I didn't expect that to happen... I'm sad that their only big darkride is gone. Darkrides with that many animatronics aren't really built anymore because the costs are too high. Europapark will probably build something awesome on that spot but sadly I don't think it will be a darkride with as much animatronics as Piraten had.

It's also sad that the Scandinavian part didn't make it but I think they can "easily" rebuild it like it was with the money from their insurance.
