Well, seeing as the loading track in the station is also vertically oriented, (and we can assume that the brake section before the transfer is vertically oriented as well), it would make more sense from an engineering standpoint to keep the vertical position to:
A: reduce cost by minimizing the amount of steel required for the transfer (as it wouldn't have to take up extra space/materials to transfer from vertical to horizontal)
B: reduce space required for the overall footprint/free up space for a more extensive layout (this IS Phantasialand and space is a rather precious commodity)
