In October of 2016, we told you that Walt Disney World was eyeing the addition of the popular TRON Lightcycle Power Run attraction from Shanghai Disneyland, and in April 2017 we updated our rumor when preliminary budgeting teams from Florida were sent out to Shanghai to take a look at the attraction. Well, with the D23 Expo just days away, it now seems certain that the attraction will be announced on Saturday, July 15th.

TRON Lightcycle Power Run will open at the Magic Kingdom just before the park???s 50th birthday (probably 2020/21), replacing the Tomorrowland Speedway attraction which opened in 1971 as the Grand Prix Raceway. The Speedway will likely close sometime in 2018 to make way for this construction.

We feel fairly confident about calling this announcement ???confirmed??? since several unrelated sources within the Walt Disney Company are now providing this information.

So we are going to get an American Tron? This could be interesting. A friend recently rode the one in Shanghai and according to him it's definitely one of the best motorbike coasters currently out there. Could be a very good choice!
But seeing how old the movie already is... I'd probably expect a 2nd movie maybe coming out around the opening?

I hate the movie, but I like the looks of this ride, and anything is better than whats there.
What are these for?

A new Tron attraction was just announced for the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World during the D23 Expo 2017.

The new ride will be built in a new area next Space Mountain, not replacing any existing rides.

The ride will be similar to the Tron roller coaster found in Shanghai Disneyland and should open by 2021.

The ride will no longer be replacing the speedway.

Also, some new details from Disney Parks Blog about some closures coming soon:

Attention Users: Tron Attraction Update Now Loading???

Last summer we unveiled plans for a thrilling Tron coaster-style attraction to be added in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park. Today, we wanted to share a first look at a new Tron-themed billboard at Magic Kingdom Park that???s now visible from Storybook Circus.

The new attraction will occupy an entirely new area next to the land???s Space Mountain, and now, as we prepare to welcome Tron into the park, a few modifications will be made to nearby attractions as construction kicks into gear.

First, the Walt Disney World Railroad will temporarily take up residence at the Main Street Station starting in December 2018, pausing its grand-circle tours of Magic Kingdom Park. During this time, guests will be able to get an up-close look at the railroad and take advantage of one-of-a-kind photo opportunities.

The Tomorrowland Speedway will close for a portion of 2019, as the attraction???s track is adjusted. It will reopen as the same attraction our guests know and love in the summer of 2019.

Magic Kingdom???s Tron attraction, which is set to debut in time for Walt Disney World???s 50th anniversary in 2021, is based on TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland (pictured above). This coaster-style attraction allows riders to board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles for a thrilling race through the digital frontier. TRON Lightcycle Power Run debuted on Shanghai Disneyland???s opening day and quickly became the highest-rated attraction at the park.

We look forward to sharing more updates with you on the thrilling new addition of Tron as work progresses. Keep your eye on the Disney Parks Blog for more.

I wonder if it will have the same layout as the one in Shanghai.

Looking at the layout, this is definitely looking like a clone of the one in Shanghai.

Also, during D23 earlier this year, a new piece of concept art was revealed, which interestingly reveals that the name of this version is simply be TRON Lightcycle Run:
