PARK UPDATE

February 8, 2019

The 2019 operating season is on the horizon! Before we make a quick announcement, let???s take a look at what we accomplished in 2018. The addition of Twisted Timbers, the area???s first hybrid roller coaster, brought more fun, thrills and memories. And we lit up the park for a new season of fun for the first time ever with WinterFest in November and December, ending the year with a bang thanks to New Year???s Eve fireworks. We???ve heard not only how much you love only Twisted Timbers and all the changes in our Candy Apple Grove section of the park, but also the immersive magical family environment we created with WinterFest. Major thanks goes to our talented and dedicated team for pulling out all the stops to create experiences you won???t soon forget.

Part of getting ready for a new operating season includes an expert evaluation of our rides and operations. As a part of that evaluation, every aspect of our rides and attractions are analyzed, from guest satisfaction, throughput and rider capacity to reliability, uptime and maintenance. After thorough evaluation, the decision has been made to remove Volcano: The Blast Coaster. This wasn???t an easy decision for us, because we know that people love this one-of-a-kind coaster; however, over time it became nearly impossible to keep the ride up to our high standards of reliability and guest satisfaction, and for these reasons we had to make the tough call. We apologize to anyone who is inconvenienced by the removal, but hope they will understand that it was done to enhance the overall guest experience here at Kings Dominion.

2019 is going to be a great year at Kings Dominion, and we have some exciting announcements up our sleeves that are sure to thrill our guests and associates alike. Stay tuned for more information, and thank you for your support.

Sad to hear the news, I was at KD last July and it was down my entire visit. I???m moving closer to the park soon (North Carolina) and was looking forward to riding it this year but oh well. :(

I think this removal is very shocking. I loved the ride, and viewed it as an iconic coaster.
I don' think the opinion will differ between enthusiasts and the public as currently Volcano is trending on Twitter in the US.
A big drop is a good drop.

Sad to see this ride go. I'm glad I've had my ride on it, even though it was extremely short. xD

Yeah, I'm bummed, what a unique coaster, I wanted to ride it. But, in the end, I want KD to make a good business choice so they can stay open and install more coasters!

I was fortunate to ride the ride on opening weekend last year i think 3 times. It was fun, it was a headbanger and it was unique. Im sad to see it go but also excited for the future of the spot where the ride stood.

I also think the mountain will go with the ride since the ride's supports are intertwined with it. Please enjoy an off-ride video I made on Saturday of the ride:

At least I got the credit while I could??? it was a unique ride, albeit a tad too hyped up before my trip. Unfortunately, it ended up disappointing me a bit. Still stinks to see that Another One Bites the Dust.

It's always sad to see a coaster being chopped up. This was a very fun but short ride. Maybe someone will honor it with a NL2 recreation. :3

This is all sad, but it would be really cool to see the immelman without the mountain. Hopefully they continue to take down the top half of the mountain before getting to the track.

I would expect so although probably depends on where the track connections are - if part of the track section extends into the volcano they'll definitely be removing the volcano first. If not they might remove the track just to mitigate the risk of accidentally hitting the structure whilst removing the volcano and causing the supports to fail.
