Yes, once you go to apply the UVW Mapping, you choose what type of object, or the type of mapping coordinates that best fit your object. If it's a cube you choose, box, Spere is for sphere, shrink wrap will just wrap your object as if using a sheet of shrink wrap. Another option that might help, say if your creating a tunnel or a dome where you want the texture to be on both sides, (the front and back), you will open your material editor box and choose your texture, and directly below that you should see a check box for a "double-side" material.
