I commend your NURBS modeling skills, which are good, and I certainly do not want to take away from that. But the reason that you say it looks like crap in NL is because I have always thought that creating high quality renders was easier than creating good looking low poly objects.

The reason for that is you have to be a lot more than a good quality modeler to do the low poly. You have to be a great textuter as well. You have to make up for the loss of raytrace, bump mapping, shading and a host of other render functions with some handy Photoshop work.

Please do not missconstrue my post. Great looking model, it looks sweet can not wait to see it when you have an interior as well .

first of all, this is poly modeling, and second of all i highly dissagree. High poly modeling is so much harder then low poly mainly becuase of alot more detail that needs to be modeled in, but also becuase you are normally having to work under a mesh smooth, which means that your mesh NEEDS a proper structure, other wise the smoothing prosess really screws up in those areas which where not done properly.

i didn't add the wheels to the model for this render because the polys count is really rising fast, those nice new headlights are 7000 apiece. The wheels themseselves (remember they still need treads, and disks which will more then double this number) are currently about 25k polys. So instead of haveing to wait for my computer to finish importing and resising them, i just left them out for this time. And if it still really bothers you just imaging that they are there[approve]

Why the heck are you poly modeling that?

This is a quote from the 3Ds max 5 bible, by Kelly Murdock:
"...[NURBS] are easy to work with, they give you good interactive control, they blend together seemlessly, and the surfaces remain smooth even when distorted. NURBS are superior to polygonal modeling methods for building models with smooth flowing contours..."

That is so much easier to do with NURBS, and you do not get the smoothing issues you do with meshes. I admit, if you are creating a high res mesh, then it is a pain to smooth and get it to look right. Hence why you don't do it.

If you really need a polymesh, (and I can't understand why you would) you can convert it from a nurbs model later. Hi Res polymodeling is generally not done. Every now and then I see them for more linear stuff, like prototyping a building or a bridge. But if you are creating something that is nearly all curves, like your car, working with nurbs is the way to go.

You do not tighten a screw with a hammer.

My opinion stands, and don't go and get all defensive. I still said it looked good. Just admit you learned something today and experiment with it. If you do not want criticism, then do not post your stuff here.

Any by the way, as long as I have been modeling, I still consider myself a 3Dnoob, and always will.
