Ok i have another theory which could help to make smooth coasters. Ive tested it and it worked for me so here goes explaining. Instead of smoothing the coaster in the 3d view going back and forth on the track try to make it as smooth as possible only be using the side, front, back and top views. This way it might be smoother. It worked for me so see if it could help you aswell.

Errr, and that wasn't very polite, I think you should give Matt an apalogy, saying that he tried to help you.
P.S Matt, please re-explain, I didn't get what you were saying.

Uh...I thought MoP was in charge while WWS's on some kinda short vacation.... anyway, Matt, as some comfort, I usually do smoothing in 3 steps. 1. sides, front/back, & top (like you suggested. 2. 3D view. And then once I've gotten it pretty darn good and smooth (as my skills permit) I do step 3. Run it through the node smoother about 4 times. Unconventional, but it works.

I know what he means, although the side views I find are for more shaping of the track, not smoothing. If you have studied alot of real life shaping often looking at the track from a side view will force you to make changes, and often it can come out smoother. So dont knock the idea as soon as you've heard it, the guy has a point.

I like to use the 3d fly view when I'm having a hard time getting a section smooth, as well as the fly view in the simulator, a lot of times I'll see the overall shape better

I am hoping that in the 1.5 update, you'll be able to use the full fledged flying mode as you can in the simulator, that way it'll be SO much easier to smooth.

You already can, and if you mean going faster just hold shift while your doing it.
