Yuck, a wild mouse with OTSR's...now that could be really painful.

I still don't understand why so many parks insist on using OTSR's on coasters with nothing but vertical loops... As seen with almost all of the Schwarzkoph loopers, they are really not necessary.

They may not be necessary but its more to do with making the guests feel safe. Im pretty sure an 8yr oldkid wouldnt go on a ride with a loop if he couldnt see a restraint holding you in. I think most people except us coaster idiots would steer clear.

that ride looks weird. It's cool how the track goes through the cat's mouth about halfway through the ride.

I am not sure if that would be called a true "mouser". I mean, it looks pretty tame and the top speed is 31.1 mph. Talk about crawling over the loop and those hairpins are gonna be REALLY slow and lose total effect.

i think those hairpins would hurt too much with OTSR, it would be way cooler if it's just a standard wild mouse car going through the loop [:)]

like Edge said, and most coaster freaks don't seem to get this, but the average person doesn't realize the laws of gravity will keep you in, and they think that OTSR's are the only restraints that will keep you in. Example, California Screamin at DCA has OTSR, but they're 100% pointless, there's nothing about the ride that could possibly need an OTSR, but to make a larger amount of guests comfortable *mostly dumb little kids* they put on the OTSR

another wtf moment, what was the purpose of making a steel woody? http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery ... ?Picture=1

What do you mean a steel woodie? Its just a steel coaster that has scaffold type supports instead of plain poles/tubes

its basically a woody, full of air time, and no inversions, and if they built it as a wooden coaster, it would have been way cheaper. Wooden Coasters are really cheap, even ones like Ghost Rider, that was only $6,000,000, I believe, for a steal coaster of the same length, and junk, it would have been over $14,000,000 probably

Could be cause it is in Japan with the Tsunami's they wanted to be sure it would last? Or, someone fudged the order form and ordered a whole bunch of steel tubes instead of 2x4's and they said what the heck? Let's do it!

maybe was the ground unstable so they make a steel woody... i dunno why, it could have different reasons...

The reason for Mount Rocky being a steel is due to the fact its placed over a lake. Using wooden supports would over time cause wood rot and make the whole structure unstable, hence they used steel instead

I withdraw the above comment (http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery ... ?Picture=1) [lol]

WEll, the "steel woody" is actually a steel coaster (it has steel tracks not wood) designed like a woody, much like excalibur at valleyfair park or Gemini at CP. The best reason I can think of is maintenance and/or they wanted a smooth ride.

As the OTSR discussion goes, some states and some insurance companies REQUIRE OTSR's. I know for a fact that california requires OTSR's for all inverting rides due to insurance reasons.
Also, some companies don't think it would be feasable to design and build an entirely new train for the same track system.
This is especially true for TOGO (the example dirk gave) and panifari (for example, "Rollies Coaster" at Morey's Pier)
