Comet has no trim in the first 1/2

The second turnaround has them, and thats before the run of air hills, which is where the ride was the most crazy, and now those hills don't deliver.

Texas Giant used to have a great drop off of the midcourse brake...before they started bringing the train to a near complete stop on the brake run. [:(!]

My vote for best drop would be for any of SFOT Shockwave's drops after the midcourse brake run. They are definitely a 'shock' the first time you ride it. I also liked the big drop through the trees near the end of Thunderation at SDC.

Oblivion's first drop is great. Amazing freefall.
Balder's first drop is so step. The best part about the whole ride. Amazing.
Thundercoaster's second drop. The most amazing air-time I have ever experienced. It's so crazy. The first time you're sure your gonna fly out of the train.
Katun's first drop. Nice air all the way down.

I vote for Cataclysm's first drop! [lol] jk...

Really, I think Millennium Force has the best first drop. Nothing beats dropping over three hundred feet nearly straight down. When you sit in the back, you feel like you are going to be pitched into Sandusky Bay. The rest of the ride is questionable, but that first drop is just Awesome!

As an honorable mention, I will say The Legend at Holiday World, just because it looks so wicked from the ground and has such a great falling sensation.

Dude! I used to ride The Giant daily from 1998-2004 during the summer! Yeah, the drop down into the structure was something on it, and then they just added that much air to the brakes and -poof- ... crap was born.

SFOT Shockwave is ok I guess, but it is so old and sways so much that it is almost a has-been. And changing the paint color on it hasn't helped it very much. [:)]

Yeah, I'm not too crazy about the green colors either. My favorite color scheme that they've had over the years is the blue track with charcoal gray supports. As for the swaying, it has done that since the very beginning.

I gotta say that goliath sfh has a few awesome drops. The first one obviously, and the two where it changes direction.

And then theres the three insane bunny hops at the end. It also has the stengel dive which is my favourite element on any ride ever.

lol i gotta agree with what Carlosio says - the Stengel dive is so awesome and the many drops and bunnyhills, and that last helix at the end is so tight its unbelievable.

Of course it has swayed, but it is just so old man that compared (side by side) for example to Titan's drop it just loses all luster. Of course, approx 25 years ago that ride was DA BOMB! LOL

You mean over the top hat, coasteragent? I mean, from one coaster freak to another, after you ride over one, you pretty much get the idea of what the next will be like. ;-)

I don't really mean over teh tophat, I meant the drop as the topic says. It's just plain great, and it makes MF's drop look like trash, nothing against MF, it has a great drop too. I wwant to see it in the front seat though, which I've never had. I was lucky to get the front of TTD.

Ahh, the fine art of roller coaster drops....

1. Millennium Force - first drop....amazing air in the back, and an amazing ride in the front as well.

2. Cornball Express - http://www.coastergallery.com/2003/IB03.html - back seat here gives the most amazing airtime I've experienced on a coaster, plus an amazing headchopper effect.

3. Raven - Fifth drop, another amazing CCI drop very similar to Cornball Express's 3rd (pictured above), leading to the crazy ravine run.

I agree entirely with carlosio, the first drop on Goliath and also, both of the floating transitions, they're proper great they are, one of which, as some of you may remember, was featured as a picture in the heading at the top of homepage a while back on WeeWeeSlap.....Infact I think it was that picture that Carlosio linked us to.

Oblivion has a pretty good drop offering some wicked airtime, but i love the nemesis drop, not because its scary, it aint scary at all, its just really fun to stick your legs out on and just have fun, as you get a wicked gliding sensation, and it picks up a surprising amount of speed for how small it is. I havent been on any amazing drops so i wouldnt really know though!

On Lightning racer, the first drop is sweet and seems very steep, and all airtime while twisting in the back seat, and the great exposire of a Millenium Flyer train in front (just the few bars) makes it great. Even tho the ride is only 90' tall, the long trains make it hit 51 MPH with only the 90' drop which makes the first time riders surprised at the speed. The thrid small drop has loads of airtime, and then the high banked turnaround which is great because you think there's no way both trains will make it in the small building, especally in the front seat.

STorm Runner's drop off the top hat is great because it's just straight down, no twist's, just you and the ground, and airtime all the way down

Steel: MF's first drop...Love the floating, and how long you feel it.

Wood: (very close to other woodies) Zippin Pippin's 3rd hill...EJECTOR airtime, and you only have a buzzbar that doesn't come down all the way and is very "loose", only problem is it only lasts for a split second.
