howdy... i've been doing no limits for about 4 months now, and i just realized yesterday that my framerate was like 30 max..... on wooden coasters(duh, i should have noticed a long ago..) i'm running a 2 gig pentium 4 with a nvida 64 whatever videocard and 512 of ram.... what should i be getting, and how do i raise it if i can. yes, i have used the support things, but it doesn's make too much different. i built the computer from scratch, and it's never broken down, but i know very little about them. any of you guys probabaly know more than i do, any help would be appreciated......

Oh oh, lets all feel sorry for you......not, my NL runs at 2 FPS, 2!!! Please don't complain that your NL is running at 30, I could only dream of that! as for your problem, I'm not sure, maybe you could turn down the detail settings on the NL menu.

I have a new computer (also with 512MB RAM) and it runs everything at max detail just fine. woodies run at 50-60 fps but dip down to the 20s or 30s at congested areas. everything else runs at very high framerates. i can definitely appreciate gouldy's comment because my old computer maxed out at 3 fps!!!

RAM and a good graphics card is the key here jayman. If you have low RAM and an old card, your framerate will be in the toilet, guaranteed. Save up, get a new card, and most likely some more RAM and you should see an improvement.

Also press ctrl alt del and make sure you don't have like 30 process' running that you don't need to be running

Mine is strange. It seems to be locked at 30 and 60, if the scene is mostly clear, it's at 60 but doesn't go higher, then, at a certain # of polys, it changes imediatly to 30, add some more crap to it an it locks to 20, then like 12, but those lower framerates only occur when I view the steel cars at certain angles and/or when I clog up the scene with 3d's.

Edit: BTW, my old comp was crap, usually at 6 fps or so, but if you looked at the sky, it would jump to 100 I belive. Very varying, lol.

oh oh.... i did buy a new card, didn't change too much... waste of money for someone like me who didn't know that that was good... oh well, soon i'll upgrade the whole thing and my brother will get the old card...... ah well. anyways now they go up to a hundred.... or as low as 19??? i have no idea which proccesses i can turn off, but i'm sure that would make a difference.......

I think if NL displays that your fps is 100 it is really higher than that. The display counter just doesn't go up above 100.

maybe, but i'dlike to see if mine can go faster, i just don't know enough about computers to optimize all my stuff, its got 512 ram, which seems like enough, 128 video stuff thing, like a radeon 9200se stealth s80 card thing.it works, but does anyone know what i should be looking at, am i even close... sometimes it goes as high as 90 or even100 but mostly stays between 20 and 40? ??? like one guy sais that i may have processes running, like 33 but i don't know which ones i can turn off.

i get 20-90 right now, but i recently ordered a Radeon X800 XT... so it will soon get better...

If you haven't done so already, try turning off vertical sync in the NL config settings, along with shadows and reflections. Also, anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering can really bring the FPS down. Try turning down these in your video card settings. You should see a big difference with these changes.

BTW, i've ran NL on my computer with both 512 and 1024 mb RAM. It doesn't really make that much of a difference. You should be fine with 512, so long as you are not running a bunch of other programs in the background.

You could look at it this way - It's not abnormal to have low FPS when riding wooden coasters. Actually, I would say that 20-30 fps is really not that bad for some woodies. If you have tried what I've suggested, and still don't see the type of numbers you want, my only other suggestion would be to press F1 and enjoy the ride. This way, you won't know what numbers you are getting. [:D]

know what... you're right.... i forgot how much i really like no limits for the coasters, and found myself obsessed with technology... shame on me...ah well, at least i know i can handle rct3 .....

Don't feel bad. I used to get caught up in the video card craze too, trying to squeeze out every last fps I could out of the games I played. Now, I just don't care what fps I'm getting. I usually play NL with all of the settings at max, unless I run into something that slows my pc down to a crawl.

my comp stays 100 max, 40 avrage. Turn EVERYTHING on low, off, or very near. (or any other things that go lower), plus, in the "ADVANCED" catigory in setup, turn GL extentions on '1.5' , itl work better, if not i no wat to do.

If your fps locks to 60,30,12 etc. This is the effect of VSync. If 60 is the highest you get, I bet you're running it on a flatscreen or a rather old Monitor.
Anyway, don't worry about it and DON'T switch Vsync off. It won't look better, more likely it will look bad if you turn it off.
In general there's only one thing where you want VSync off and that is when doing benchmarks. In all other situations, you want it ON.

I don't notice a difference with it off on my computer

I dont have an old monitor, and with it on it locks to 60fps, which I read was because of WindowsXP. Ive got a 19inch CRT Flat and right now my refresh rate is at 100, yet, NL locks at 60, which is why I think its XP. Locks everything over 60.
