Im puzzled as to why people still want the old one? The new one is simply easy to use and allows for a ton of new options.

I just figured one out today, it shows the border of the actual NL building area so you wont create the huge terrain and then realize the part you wanted to build in you cant.

If ya got any questions just ask away. I know quite a bit about it now.

i think because most people hate the way for how to terraform. IMO, I think those nodes are extreme annoying!

Most people just dont take enough time to learn how to use the node. They are in fact very useful and once you understand the options you can customize how they work.

For instance, I hated how it auto smoothed everything so much. So, I looked in the menus and low and behold, go to Edit and turn off Auto-Smooth. Or if you want Auto-Smooth on and you just want it less, go to Edit and Smooth Strength and customize the strength of it.

Actually, Im making this now a formal invitation to anyone who has issues with the terraformer.

I find it highly detailed and you can do some really neat stuff with it. Plus the auto-generator is lightyears better than the old one.

Sometimes, I find it easier to use the old one, sometimes, the new one, it depends on the situation.

Anyways, if you've updated your terraformer before taking 1.5, then you should be able to find it. Go to the NL folder and into the folder named "update", then into "1.3", then just keep looking through and the terraformer should pop out somewhere. Copy it and paste it to a foder that's not the NL folder, then rename it to "old nolimits terraformer", or something like that, just don't ovrrite the new one.

Good luck.

I do like many features in the new one. But one feature I hate compared to the old one is how crappy it auto generates the terrain.

I find the auto generator to be better. How is it not as good as the old one?

It always burries my track. It doesn't even seem to take track placement into consideration (whenever I use it).
Even when I lower the terrain so the track is all visible it is as if the terrain was premade and then I just slapped the track into place. And if you use the cut track path tool it just doesn't look realistic.

It never looked realistic with the old one. It did the exact same thing, I just think you maybe had some better luck with the old one. I never could do auto generate AFTER I made a track because no matter what it looked fake. Thats why making the terrain first then sculpting the track around is always your best bet, its a lot more like real life too.

I know what you are saying, but I got the same or worse results with old one too. Id make terrain, cut out track and it would be this massive gulch in the shape of the track.

I think the default settings in the new terraformer maybe should be toned down some, but I know if I turn up land smoothing, erosion about 5x and keep the water levels down Ill get a pretty smooth terrain that looks natural.

Well with careful planning of where the track will be the auto generate tool on the old terraforming worked wonders in shaving off hours of terrain sculpting time. With that said though, I do realize it is easier (in most cases) to form the terrain first and then construct the track.

Both terraformers have their pros and cons but I still prefer the earlier one.

I still dont see how the old one did a better job?? I may try to find it and fire it up and see, but I think people just arent playing with the settings enough and are just pressing "generate" without using the options.

when using the auto generate thing, it will automaticly have a smoothed path for the track, where as in the new one, if you use the auto generate, it randomly generates terrain, and when you cut a path fot the track it is very unsmooth and looks very unrealistic...

Again, I think you guys are basing it on random unlucky conditions.

I find with the new one the terrain sits kind of high majority of the time unless you boost the land flattening up kind of high. When you do that itll lower the terrain and keep things flat and rolly.

But I rememeber people making terrain and it cut the terrain to the track like the grand canyon.

Im not trying to come down on you guys but it sounds like you just arent using the options but instead are just pressing auto generate like it should come out like whats in your head every time. I did what you said GRIM just yesterday and it cut out smoothly. Did you have auto smooth on?

Ill link to some tracks from 1.3 that did the "cut to track" and show you what I mean by it creating a vast grand cayon, which isnt realistic at all.

When you create terrain, turn the Land Flattening up. Then, if its still too high, use the Tools - Adjust Height (something I think the last terraformer lacked) and lower it till its at the right height. Then cut the path. I did that yesterday, came out wonderful. But then again, I wasnt trying to cut the track into a huge valley.

-EDIT-
I just used a track, opened terraformer. Auto Generate (didnt touch the defaults) and then cut the path. Sure, the track ended up being in the middle of a mountain, thus you get these huge walls but the old one did the very same thing. However, when I cut, the edges are nice and rounded and very realistic for being so vertical and sheer.

I found if you have auto-smooth turned off, you will get sheer pointy walls when you do this, so you need auto-smooth on.

Ill post some pictures. How about you guys do the same? Im just curious if its bad luck or a legit problem because Im not having what you guys say.

My track 'Primagen' from 1.3 is a good example of how the auto generate worked better on the last terraformer.

I erased your terrain on that track, did an auto generate. I then spent maybe 2 minutes tops adjusting some water, lowered it by 1 or 2 and wham, I have something similar and I actually kind of like the water features.

The old one may seem to be more amatuerish now that I think about it, I think alot of what the old one did the new one does but you just need to configure it. The new one does everything the old one does, just better but with more detail. I would bet the old one did the auto smoothing and such but we didnt have much control over it.

I also found out a few neat things about the cut track and how to customize how it cuts the track out and such. If ya want to see what I got it to do, lemme know Ill email it so you wont have it for everyone to see.

So yea, if you want to know how to do something let me know. Just dont say the new one doesnt do it, it does, and very easily and quickly. I find it hard to believe that you just hit "auto-generate" and got what you did. If so, that was luck, not something the terraformer was programmed to do.

Keep givin me a challenge, Ill have this whole thing figured out in no time.
