I had been working on an awesome mouse type ride for 4 months, complete with 3ds, texturing, cartextures, awesome supports, and a queue line, and then lightning struck my computer. I hadn't backed up any files. I think it only hit the motherboard. I want all you guys to keep your fingers crossed for me, cuz I really want to submit my creation. It is sad that all of my half-completedprojects are now gone. I have learned a lesson from this. I needto start backing up files.

Too bad you had to learn the hard way ... backing up should be number one priority when dealing with a piece of equipment that could fail from 1,000 internal and/or external influences. We're pulling for ya man!

Sounds a bit faulty, the whole story, but I will believe you. Sorry Dude, perhaps using virtual storage or an external hardrive? Again real sorry to hear that.

Wow, this stuff used to happen to me, on an old comp who's hard drive would break down every few months, and would crash everytime you're in the middle of something, I'm glad I got my new comp, but of course, it can still be struck by lightning. Either way, I've been there before and I know how it feels.

Something very similair to this happened to me a few years ago! I was working on a project for about 3 months in AutoCad and one day while I was working there was a lightning strike on the building and BOOM, my computer went black and got fried!
I learned my lesson the hard way as well, so I know how you feel lol

Just get back to me when you lose 1 year worth of data, including 4-6 tracks which would have redefined me as a builder. Uh huh ;)

Tis ok though, just forces me to be more creative and re-work what was saved. Sucked for a week though.

You guys should use protection surge stripcs next time if you aren't already. Also, keep the comp off during a storm. If you want to be garenteed safe, just unplug the damn cord then.

Heh. I lost mine when trying to move stuff from one drive to another... I somehow had them copied, then went to undo the cut I made. It deleted the files I had in cache and suddenly, all my files were gone. :
Make COPIES, dont CUT next time.

At least you didn't lose an entire 3 months of work which was worth almost 50% of a class mark in school ;)

Luckily I had one of the top marks in the class and I got a big extention haha

Ive done similar stunts before and I had the teachers favor as well. It pays not to be a teachers pet, but just not to be the teachers eyesore.

While what you lost was more important in an immediate sense, I lost alot of sentimental data and alot of data I was working on that was going to be showcased over several rides.

Oh well, guess that means now I need to take my math classes so I can math this stuff out from now on.

You're so full of it[lol]
Anyways, I guess there's not much you can do when lighting strikes you computer. I mean even if you did back it up on your computer, it would have fried, wouldn't it have?
