Its basically a little thing that electronically reserves a spot for you in line.
You goto the ride, put it in, and then come back at the prescribed time.

oh here we call them "Fast Passes." Yeah, I'm pretty sure SoCal invented them, yeah, so ours is better than yours![lol]
But seriously they are.

A q-bot is different than a fast pass. There is also different levels of q-bot that you can purchase. If you buy a q-bot gold I think you only have to wait for 10% of the actual wait time.

And I'm pretty sure that fast passes weren't invented in Southern California.

I'm pretty sure Disney Land invented them and used them at Disney Land (not sure about Disney WOrld, though)

I believe Q-bots are a Six Flags only thing. And I think cedar point has hand stamps that act like fastpasses.

Real, can you get more than one stamp per day?

My Explanation:
Cedar Point gives you a stamp that has your ride and ride time. Since you have two hands to get stamped you have 2 rides per day, but you can only reserve MF or TTD once per day. Any way you have to wait like an hour in line for TTD and MF to get the stamp and you'd better hope they have one or you just wasted an hour. On the other rides they offer it on (Raptor Mantis Magnum Wicked Twister) it's usually a 10 minute line. So basically for MF or TTD you wait for the stamp or you wait in the line. On the rides other than MF and TTD you can get 2 stamps for that ride, but only one stamp per day on TTD and MF.

CedarPoint.com's Explanation:
FreeWay - A Faster Way to Ride

Cedar Point has a free ride reservation service at Millennium Force, Mantis, Raptor, Top Thrill Dragster, Magnum XL-200 and Wicked Twister. The system, which uses hand stamps, is available only to a limited number of guests each day.

Here?????????s how it works:

1. We will issue stamps at Millennium Force, Mantis and Raptor from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. (unless all the stamps are issued before 1 p.m.) for boarding times of 1 p.m. to closing. We will issue stamps at Top Thrill Dragster, Magnum XL-200 and Wicked Twister from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. for boarding times of 4 p.m. to park closing. Freeway hand stamps may not be available every day, especially for Top Thrill Dragster, Wicked Twister and Magnum. Please check at the ride for availability.

2. Go to the FreeWay hand stamp kiosk located near the ride entrance and get your hand stamp with a boarding time. Your boarding time is good for one ride on that specific coaster during the time period stamped on your hand. Boarding times are issued consecutively; you may not request a specific boarding time.

3. Return during the time period stamped on your hand and show your hand stamp to the ride host at the FreeWay entrance to the ride. You will enter our special FreeWay queue, which will allow you to merge into the regular ride queue just minutes before entering the ride station.

4. At the merge point a ride host will invalidate your hand stamp to indicate you have used your boarding time.

5. To allow as many guests as possible to take advantage of FreeWay, a guest may reserve only two rides per day. You may reserve Top Thrill Dragster and Millennium Force only once per day.

Boarding times are subject to availability. FreeWay is not a guarantee to ride: weather or maintenance conditions may delay or cancel your reservation time. We hope you enjoy our FreeWay system and have a fantastic day at Cedar Point.

the way it works in port aventura is with 2 kinds of fast passes. Free passes but they only work between one time. So if you'll get a fast pass ticket at 13:30 you'll can fast pass free on that ride for one hour. You'll enter then the fast pass Q line and usually you can enter imediatly. But it only counts for the ride you have got the free fast pass ticket from.
The other way is a Fast pass Gold. You only can get those at info booths. They cost something about 17.50????????? But you can enter all the fast pass rides unlimited. Just show the wristband at the fast pass line and you can enter the ride you just Q'ed for. But those fast pass gold's are only 100 available at every info point. So about 400 golds are available in the whole park.

I'd think the fast passes are way better then just those Q bots from what i've heard. Those Q-bots let you wait outside the Q but with those fast passes you have a way shorter Q time. So you actually can ride way more then just normal guests in the park. I'd love the fast pass gold in port aventura myself. first day without pass: every ride minimum 1 hour wait. 2nd day with fast pass gold: maximum 10min wait! And that was on the tukuni splash where other peeps had to wait 4 hours for....

fast pass: used only in disney parks. you stick your park ticket in a machine, and it gives you a time to come back to skip the line. it's free (no charge!)

q-bot: used at various other parks, in particular at six flags parks. basically you go to guest relations, but a beeper thing, and go to the ride you want when it tells you to.

i like fastpass better... much cheaper.
